NEW FOR 2015:
- New Z/28 model focuses on track performance.
- New colour: Blue Velvet.
Chevrolet has channeled its past as a road-racing champ with the new Camaro Z/28 for 2015. It’s a track-honed model designed to show the world that the Camaro has the guts to compete with the best machines the world has to offer. With carbon ceramic brakes, a serious aero kit, thinner glass, the 505-hp 7.0-litre heart from the Corvette Z06 and a 300-lb weight reduction, this Oshawa-built monster can haul itself around Germany’s famed Nurburgring in 7:37:47 – faster than a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640.
The rest of the Camaro range continues for the final model year of this generation effectively unchanged. And that means if you like its retro-modern styling, now might be the time to snag a deal on one. Very much a “heart” car, the Camaro has a somewhat cramped interior and poor outward visibility, but few cars on the planet go – or sound as good as it, particularly the V8-powered SS and ZL1. The Camaro is more comfortable than you might think, too, thanks to fully independent suspension and a modern chassis.
For what is arguably a niche product, there’s a Camaro for everyone. The basic LS and LT models come with V6 power, but there’s also the tire-shredding V8-powered SS and ZL1. Other than the coupe-only LS, these models can be had with a power-operated convertible top. For those who want nimbler handling Camaros, there’s the 1LE handling package for 1SS and 2SS models, and the ultimate Z/28, both of which come in coupe only and paired to a six-speed manual.
1LS includes 18-inch painted aluminum wheels, limited-slip differential, hydraulic power steering, dual exhaust with bright tips, body colour front fascia and rear diffuser, tinted glass, automatic lights, body colour power mirrors, body colour lower rocker panels, manual air conditioning, pollen filter, arm rest, cruise control, carpeted floor mats, trip computer with compass, oil monitoring system, dome light with illuminated entry, keyless entry, OnStar, 12-volt power outlet, tilt and telescoping steering column, power windows with auto up/down, cloth upholstery, manual four-way driver seat, manual two-way passenger seat, rear-seat trunk pass-through, six-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 player with aux-in jack and satellite radio.
2LS deletes rear limited-slip differential and adds standard six-speed automatic transmission.
1LT builds on 1LS and adds projector beam fog lights, leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel, sport cloth upholstery, front passenger seatback map pocket, power six-way adjustable front seats, Bluetooth, 7.0-inch MyLink display audio system, and USB port.
Convertible adds power top with rear glass, seven-speaker sound system.
2LT adds heated exterior mirrors with auto-dimming driver’s side mirror, reverse camera, 19-inch wheels, console-mounted gauge cluster, colour display instruments, head-up display, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, rear parking sensors, garage door opener, leather upholstery, heated seats, and a 245-watt nine-speaker Boston Acoustics sound system.
Convertible adds power top with rear glass, eight-speaker Boston Acoustics sound system.
1SS builds on 1LT and adds Brembo brakes with four-piston calipers, limited-slip differential, electric power steering, performance-tuned suspension, unique SS front fscia, hood vents, rear spoiler, 20-inch wheels, and headrests with SS embroidery.
2SS builds on 1SS and adds heated exterior mirrors with auto-dimming driver’s side mirror, reverse camera, console-mounted gauge cluster, colour display instruments, head-up display, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, rear parking sensors, garage door opener, leather upholstery, heated seats, and a 245-watt nine-speaker Boston Acoustics sound system.
Convertible adds power top with rear glass, tonneau cover, eight-speaker Boston Acoustics sound system.
ZL1 builds on 2SS and adds six-piston front Brembo brakes, quad exhaust tips, Magnetic Ride Control suspension, ZL1-specific body kit, aluminum hood with carbon fibre insert, HID headlamps, body colour roof mouldings, forged 20-inch alloy wheels, supercharger boost gauge, alloy sport pedals, ZL1 headrest embroidery, and leather upholstery with suede cloth inserts.
Z/28 builds on ZL1 and adds carbon ceramic discs with Brembo six-piston front calipers, Z/28 specific aero kit, bright sill plates, suede cloth-upholstered flat-bottom steering wheel and shift knob, and Recaro performance seats.
Z/28 replaces ZL1’s Magnetic Ride Control with Z/28-specific track-tuned dampers, 20-inch wheels with 19-inch wheels, full colour instrument display with monochrome display, auto-dimming rear-view mirror with manual day/night mirror, MyLink radio with standard radio, Boston Acoustics sound system with a single-speaker sound system.
Z/28 removes ZL1’s air conditioning, power adjustable seats, rear-seat pass-through, supercharge gauge, head-up display, fog lights, HID headlamps, heated and auto-dimming exterior mirrors, rear parking sensors, reverse camera, garage door opener, USB audio port.
