History/Overview
Welcome to the fourth model year for the current Ram 3500 heavy-duty pickup truck, which debuted in 2019. The 3500 is Ram’s top consumer-grade pickup, slotting in between the 2500 and the commercial-oriented 4500.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
This year, the Ram 3500’s most significant change is a new version of the company’s Uconnect infotainment system. Some Power Wagon models offer an electronic transfer case, and you can now get a 360-degree camera system for your trailer.
Available Trims
Ram offers the 3500 in Tradesman, SLT, Laramie, Limited, Big Horn, and Laramie Longhorn trims. You can also choose from regular, crew and mega cab configurations, and between single and dual rear wheel setups. Engine choices are a 6.7L turbodiesel inline six-cylinder, which comes with a six-speed automatic, and a 6.4L gas V8 paired with an eight-speed transmission. Rear- and four-wheel drive are offered, too.
Standard Features
Tradesman trim comes with a 5.0-inch touchscreen, six-speaker audio, 17-inch steel wheels, A/C, and vinyl flooring; crew cab models also get power locks and windows.
Big Horn gets an 8.4-inch display, and a trailer brake controller; Power Wagon gets front/rear park assist; Laramie adds a 10-speaker stereo; Laramie Longhorn gains navigation; and Limited models get a 12.0-inch touchscreen.
Key Options
Big Horn’s level 1 package adds fog lights, power driver’s seat, garage door remote, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel; a level 2 package brings heated seats/steering wheel, a digital gauge display, dual-zone A/C, a power sliding rear window, dampened tailgate, and 115-volt power outlets.
In Power Wagon, a level 1 group gets power-adjustable pedals and a power-release tailgate; a level 2 group gets leather seats, a stereo upgrade, automatic high beams, rain-sensing wipers, and passive keyless entry; a level 3 pack gains a 12.0-inch touchscreen, and 17-speaker audio.
In Laramie models, a level 1 upgrade adds ventilated front seats, larger side mirrors, and blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. A level 2 bundle brings heated rear seats, wireless phone charging, and navigation. A Longhorn level 1 pack gains power running boards.
Finally, a Limited level 1 option brings surround-view cameras, all-speed forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise, and trailer reverse guidance.
Fuel Economy
The Ram 3500 is classified as a commercial vehicle, so Transport Canada doesn’t require it to be tested for estimating fuel consumption.
Competition
The Ram 3500’s key competitors are the Ford F-350, and GM’s Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 3500 models.
