2009 Volkswagen Jetta
Trim: CITY

There may be something to this “German Engineering” thing
2009 City Jetta purchased new and owned for 4 years, 92000KM.
Previous experience with the “more upscale” 2006 Jetta before going to the “City” version. Expectations were lowered, and overall, I’m impressed…As long as you remember that this was designed as a basic, spartan, runaround car that was to offer late 90’s German engineering at the lowest price point possible in the 2007-2010 timeframe.
Pros:
Ignore the specs - This is a zippy little car that is nimble and performs well above its reported HP/torque specs. Responsive handling, quick off the line, legitimately fun to drive – a great little city runaround car. At the time of ownership my other regular driver was a 2009 BMW 328i RWD – When driving them back to back, I wasn’t necessarily disappointed getting into the VW. Also, aftermarket support is widely available with many affordable options.
Cons:
This car was not designed for long drive comfort, nor was it trying to wow anyone with luxury or tech. Back seat and trunk are very small. I could not drive or sit comfortably as a passenger with a rear facing child seat installed in the back (I’m 5’8”). Seats not very comfortable after an hour. Fuel economy was below average - Even with a soft pedal this thing was mediocre at the pumps. Not sure if this was normal, but I found that this car burned off about 1L of oil every 6000km. Even without the fancy bells and whistles, the feared German quality reputation was evident: 2 different headlamps, 1 radio bulb requiring replacement and 1 unexpected coolant shortage light before 50000km. Long term high mileage owners may be best off finding a trustworthy German mechanic for the inevitable major breakdowns, and just accept and live with any minor optional malfunctions.
Bottom line: Great for a student or family 2nd car for short runarounds.

A wonderful car
A very fuel efficient car; has never given me any problems; the drive has always been smooth and comfortable; sad to sell it as I have to upgrade to a larger vehicle due to a growing family.

This is my 4th VW TDI car
This car has been the best car I ever owned (8 Fords/GMs) and since I've moved to VWs, Jetta, Golf and Passat diesels, we've been very satisfied. Low maintenance, roomy, great in Ottawa summers/winters. I'm sticking to VWs TDIs.

The most comfortable car I've ever ridden in. Got it for my back. The heated leather seats are so comfortable it feels as if I'm sitting in my living room when out on the road. Great city car and to travel in. Very smooth.

VW diesel Jetta has amazing fuel economy
We're big fans of Volkswagon in my family. The main reason is the incredible fuel economy but I also love the look, comfort and handling of the Jetta.

Excellent car
It's a very comfortable car, very smooth ride. Handling is great, fuel economy is pretty good. It has been very reliable, and I like the interior design, simple and high quality. The only small complain is there is some small high pitch noise from the fuel pump sometime, other than that, I really don't have any other complains on this car. Overall it is really an excellent car.

Excellent on fuel
Have the Jetta TDI (diesel), love the car, hate the electronic tubro accelleration. Can't get the car moving fast enough when you need it, at an intersection, to pass someone, etc. Other than that, love the Jetta!

Economy, performance, comfort
The 2009 Jetta is the first year with the 2.0 litre clean Diesel, and represents one of only 2 years where the diesel was available before the car was de-contented in 2011. The Jetta TDI is a premium small car that is economical to own and operate, with reasonably-priced maintenance. The trunk is famously huge for the size of the car, and it is actually considered to be a compact, not a sub-compact, by the EPA.
These cars do everything well, and offer sporty handling, supportive seats, superior fuel economy in an attractive and reliable package.

It's the perfect commuter card
I purchased a Volkswagen Jetta a year ago, and I love the car. I used commute 1 hour to the city every day, and having the Jetta really made the time fly by. It gets great fuel economy and is comfortable to sit in for long periods of time. It also have lots of space inside and looks great! I would defiantly recommend purchasing a Volkswagen Jetta

Excellent Car
I would highly recommend this car for the budget conscious person or family. They come in 2 door couple or 4 door sedan as well as hachback. It is excellent for economy, interior class and performance. The diesel engine model has slightly less off the start pickup power than the gasoline engines of the Jetta

Amazing-Jetta
I have owned this car for 3 years and have been driving it everywhere. My kids love it. My wife Loves it. I love it. It has loads of power from its 2.0L Turbo diesel engine. But at the same time it gets 1000km to a tank of fuel. I drove from Edmonton to Kamloops and back on two tanks of fuel! One each way. Just amazing. Also the trunk is huge.

Great Value, solid car
I bought this car brand new in 2009 with the top option package. Loved the understated styling, and high quality feel that abounds in this car. The materials used inside are probably the best part of the car for me. The layout is pleasing to the eye, but still practical. Doors shut and windows open/close with that satisfying German feeling. Gas mileage has been great, power is a bit lacking, no issues besides regular scheduled servicing. IMO this car can't be beat for value if you are looking for a vehicle that feels like solid, and well engineered.

A great car for those looking for something stylish yet economical.
This is a great car for those looking for something stylish yet economical. The "CITY" suffix for many of Volkswagon's traditional models (Golf, Jetta, etc...) means you are getting a "scaled" down version of the original. For most of us, this is still a very good option for day to day commuting in and around the city.
