2006 Ford Taurus

Trim: SE automatic
by Loved_my_Maxima on 10-18-2012
Ugly in my books
Had it as a rental for two weeks. Was brand new, 10000km.
Had only one thing I liked about this car: comfortable and roomy interior. Ugly exterior, dull interior.
Nothing special on performance, check engine light came on a few hours after i got it and when I called I was asked if I put the gas cap on. I didn't even touch it and yes, it was on.
Pretty bad on gas.

2010 Ford Fusion

Kudos Ford for this one
Had it as a rental for 2 weeks and I drive my friend's 2010 Fusion from time to time.
What a great car! Love the exterior and interior design.
Very comfortable seats in front and in the back, also roomy.
The gas consumption could have been better. Didn't care about the voice commands but it's nice to have.
I like the 2010-2012 model design way more than the ugly 2013. Matter of taste, huh?

1996 Hyundai Elantra

Trim: manual

Exponential maintenance costs as it was getting older
Had this car for 2 years and got it when it was 9 years old with 145000km. I was the second owner of the car.
The exterior and the interior design were fine, the quality not so much. People say Hyundai has way better quality cars after 2000, this one was built in 1996 :)
Engine was leaking a little bit of oil, a gasket was shot.
There was a lot of rust, even inside the car, more than the average on similar aged cars. Cheap plastic was breaking.
Had the wipers motor die unexpectedly at -20C while driving on the highway! Lost brakes while driving through the city.
Positives? Was awesome on gas and fun to drive.

2007 Toyota Corolla

Nothing impressive but a good car
Had this car for 2 weeks as a rental.
I didn't din't find anything extraordinary about this car but I think that's what makes it such a success.
OK exterior design, nothing flashy. Same for the interior.
Pretty good on gas, quite nice to drive; it was in fact better than I expected.
I liked more the forms and the design of a 1997 model I once had, these days car makers have a tendency of increasing the volume so you'd have more space inside and decrease the lateral windows size so it would behave better in impact tests.

2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Trim: Limited V6 automatic

Mixed feelings
Had it as a replacement vehicle for two weeks.
I liked the exterior design, I think Hyunday got a lot ahead other companies here.
Not so much for the interior: the driver seat was uncomfortable, same for the back seats.
The new leather had a strong smell, fact noticed by everyone.
The V6 engine was ok but boy it took a lot of gas.
The car was brand new, less than 20000km.
The average for the 2 weeks of summer I've had it was 17L/100km on 80% highway - 20% city driving. As a fleet car, it was very well maintained and I didn't drive it hard.
I've seen many people mentioning higher than advertised gas consumption on Hyundai cars.

2007 Hyundai Sonata

Trim: V6 Limited

Pleasantly surprised
Had it as a rental for two weeks.
I liked pretty much everything about this car.
I liked the exterior design, the interior as well.
The V6 engine didn't feel as powerful as I had expected but I couldn't help comparing it with the V6 in my Maxima :)
What I didn't like was the gas consumption.
The car was brand new, 15000km but was consuming a lot of gas 14-16L/100km on 70% highway - 30% city driving. As a fleet car, it was very well maintained and I didn't drive it hard.
I had the same experience with a SantaFe V6 2007 and my friends with same cars discovered the same gas hunger problem.

2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser

by Loved_my_Maxima on 10-17-2012
Loved the looks but love stops there
Had it for 2 weeks as a rental but been wanting to test drive it ever since it was on the market.
I really liked the design but I have to stop there.
I didn't find the car comfortable, I was getting claustrophobic inside (the 1st and only time I had this feeling in a car).
Average on gas, noisy engine.
The interior didn't impress me much but just like the exterior it's just a matter of taste.
Looking at its price, I wouldn't buy it after the experience I've had.

2008 Honda CR-V

Trim: EX-L
by Loved_my_Maxima on 10-15-2012
Best in it's class
It's comfortable, soft on gas, the exterior and interior design is great. Available only with a 2.4L / 4 cylinders engine but I don't feel the need of a V6, this one does a good job.
I had to pick between the CR-V and the RAV4 V6. I'm glad I got this one, there are a lot of complaints on the 2008 RAV4 V6 automatic transmission.
I love this car and everything about it, here is what I think Honda should improve:
- better sound insulation from the engine compartment;
- more than 4 places for the tire sensors in the ECU/easier learning procedure.
I would buy this car again.

2000 Nissan Maxima

Trim: SE
by Loved_my_Maxima on 10-12-2012
Awesome to drive but expensive to maintain
After owning this car I will always follow this rule when buying again: don't buy a car in it's 1st model year, they have the most problems.
Had it for 7 years and really loved it despite being quite expensive to maintain.
Had to change a lot of parts not related to regular wear and maintenance: MAF, ECU (2000$), DRL module, etc.
What I liked:
- fun to drive, great sport feeling;
- awesome engine and power;
- great interior and exterior;
- very good quality finishing;
- features (Bose audio, traction control, etc.)
What I didn't:
- premium gas required or check engine light comes on;
- break disks too small for a car like this;
- expensive parts;
- poorly designed parts: MAF Mass Air Filter Sensor, ECU, induction coils, DRL Daylight Running Lights module, etc.
Lots of issues with the models in years 2000, 2004, etc.
Would I buy a Maxima again? Probably not. There are so many others to drive and have.
