1997 Honda Civic

Still on the road
This car was used and abused and it still held its own. We had it for 10 years and other than rust doing its part the engine and drive train kept going strong. It is better in the snow than the new Civics. It was good on gas. This car is still missed.

Can't get lower on the ratings
Expect problems....lots of problems. Perhaps I had a lemon but it under-performed and under-delivered in every possible way. It was cheap...to buy and expensive for everything else. The transmission was a known problem amongst mechanics. The brakes never lasted past the lease period. Fuel efficiency was terrible.

2002 Acura RSX

Got the job done
In some ways this car was a mistaken. I didn't get it in stick and I got it with the A-Spec package and since it was 2nd hand came with a loud exhaust which drew a lot of attention...mostly with disdain. But outside of that it did everything a Honda is supposed to do. Be reliable, good on gas, deliver sporty performance and look decent....better than decent. Lots of space in the hatch. The rear seats are not really seats. With friends at the back the car does feel like it's lugging when you need to change lanes on the highway.

2008 Volkswagen Golf

Fabulous car...simply fabulous
Granted you don't get this car in Canada but I had the pleasure of an Euro Spec one for 2 months straight. Drove it everyday and enjoyed it to the fullest. The DSG is phenomenal. The 4Motion system doesn't let you forget that it's a front-biased vehicle but you won't need such extreme performance on regular roads unless you want to rack up tickets and insurance rates. The interior, like Audis is brilliantly done. Feels like being in a truly luxury-sports car. Fuel economy in sport mode is terrible. And like most Golfs there's a ton of space at the back.

2006 Honda Civic

Sporty and Rocks!
Absolutely loved this car. Despite the high compression engines, premium gas, low peak torque it was a blast to drive, cheap on gas and needed little in terms of maintenance. Thanks to the Limited Slip Differential I got by on all season tires though in the GTA winters aren't all that necessary. It's not necessarily the best looking car but it has all the interior goodies like MP3 capability, aux etc. Lots of space to keep your drinks. The best part outside of the high revving engine was the shift experience. It's no Porsche 911 or an S2000 but it feels remarkable....just like slicing through butter...and without any modifications.

2006 BMW M

Unparalleled performance
What an amazing car! No car offers everything but this comes so close. Handles extremely well. 285hp at the wheels distributed by an LSD is perfect for everyday driving rain, snow or shine. Want to quickly pass that lumbering vehicle you're trailing in a heavy traffic? Piece of cake. Want to enjoy that sweet intake/exhaust note on that on-ramp? Get ready to crack a smile.

I don't have this car anymore. Can't afford the gas. And it's too expensive to maintain. So if you don't have deep pockets this car isn't for you. Even an average 3 series gets expensive to maintain. The cooling system is junk in these cars. Treat this car like a baby it'll be worth it.

E46 M3's look gorgeous on the outside even after 12-6 years. Inside they've dated quite a bit. What I wished it had was all the options that were offered to the non-M coupes. No adaptive headlights! For the market that doesn't get the CSL, this is the best.
