Economical
This car is great on gas and like most toyotas I havent had to put much into it for repairs either.
Handles well on snow and ice even with the small tires.
Roomy in the back of the 4 door model. Seats 5 comfortably.
The Trunk also is very spacious. Sports bags fit in with ease.
Good Little Car.

Best little car ever
I bought my Echo brand new in 2002 and it has been the best car ever. It has more than 260,000 kms on it and is still running great. I have done very little maintenance on it and am so glad I went with the Echo. It's not the most stylish car but it is reliable and really good on gas.

No complaints
I bought the 2-Door base model (manual transmission) used 3 years ago and have no major complaints so far. Its fun to drive and gets great fuel economy. The only issue I really have with the car is that roof racks can't be installed on the two door model, but aside from that its been reliable, low cost transportation.

It's a shame they quit making this one
I have thoroughly enjoyed owning this car. It is comfortable, the visibility is great, it's fun to drive. Reliability is tops - aside from regular maintenance such as oil changes, have had to do nothing for more than 10 years. Fuel economy is good, power is still sufficient. It's no supercar, but off the track in the city, who can tell, and it sure beats one in the winter! Everyone seems to like it - I have even had strangers on the street offering to buy it. It's just a shame that they have discontinued this model - haven't seen anything to replace it yet.

Reliable Ride
Bought this car new in 2004. Since then have had no major issues. Just performed general maintenance and is run super well. On the small side so not as practical now that we are a family of 4 but for a work vehicle couldn't ask for anything better!

A dependable little car, that does the job.
This has been my first car, and it's been a great little machine. It gets me where I want to go, and has had no major problems since I got it used in 2009. It's been across the country twice, I drove it for two years for 120km a day every day, and now has over 200,000 km on it, but all I've ever had to replace are the shocks and struts on it. It's not the most comfortable car on the inside, being very compact, and it doesn't exactly wow you with its powerful engine, but it's got great acceleration and handling, and does everything a car needs to do if you're a decent driver who doesn't break the law. A friend of mine has an Echo of a similar vintage, and it's been similarly reliable for them as well. This is a great car to get if you have a minimal used car budget - absolutely no regrets, and I'd buy a Toyota again in a heartbeat (even though I don't know if they make 'em like this anymore).

Very fuel efficient and very pleased with maintenance. But it is very ugly and very light. It gets blown around on the freeway and is terrible on snow and ice.

Big for a small car
It may not be the fastest, it may not be the sleekest or the sexiest, and it may look small. But seriously, this car actually has a lot of space. I've had several people who have sat in my car, in the back, and just exclaim "whoa! There's a lot of room in here". They were decently tall folks - they had headroom and legroom and were not cramped.
In the trunk, lots of volume in there too. Only thing is the opening is on the small side. IF you can get your items through, then you actually have a lot of trunk space to work with. People are so surprised how much I can fit in there!
Performance, it's ok, not bad. Fuel economy is great!

Toyota Echo
I find the echo a great little car to get to and from. But I have notice that, like other Toyota brand vehicles I have drove, the breaks and acceleration can be a bit iffy. Especially when wet/damp roads and weather. The wheels spin on the road lines when your starting up and even on some man hole covers and such. Other then what I consider might be a Toyota thing, great little car.

Big Bang for Little Bucks
We purchased our Echo in 2004 and have loved it ever since. We always take our Echo to the dealer for it's regular maintenance and to-date have only spent around $5000 not counting gas and insurance. We have driven our Echo to Ottawa from London a few times and find it very comfortable. We only wish we added the remote door lock and cruise control package. We are planning on keeping the Echo for a long time. Why replace a good thing.

Awesome car just a little slow!
I own this car 6 years ago, bought it used, it was very reliable, and it last long. It's one of those car that you fall in love with when you drive it hard, very precise when making sharp turns, drove it on freeways back and forward from USA to Canada. However I had a blown head gasket and got the engine replaced. But overal its a great car!

Commuter car
When my husband got a job in downtown vancouver, we needed to find a car that was reliable and good on gas. He drove 240 km per day for 3 years. 3 years later and after putting over 200,000 K on the car, it owed us nothing and we have passed in on to our niece. It is a little noisy but I would say as a commuter car it delivers.

It'll get you there, eventually!
Great on gas, good for city driving. Not recommended for long drives.
Extremely frustrating when trucks are passing me because I can’t accelerate, with 4 people in the car!!
Was ready to sell the car by the time I got to New York.
Gets stuck in the snow every winter, but 5 football players can lift the car up so easy to get out of the snow.
It’s the family golf cart with doors :)
