Not Fast but Bulletproof con't
I thought I'd add an update to a review I provided below. The car now has 193,000 km on it and still runs like a train, highly reliable with low maintenance costs. At around 175,000 km we had to replace the rear wiring harness as the loom wires had fatigued where the wiring goes from the body to the hatch. We bought the part from the VW dealership and did the job myself which wasn't very difficult. The car is very smooth and comfortable and feels like a much bigger car from inside. My comments about its speed, engine noise levels when revved and fuel economy were from the perspective of someone who's other car is a BMW335d with a Stage 2 Tune. I would have no hesitation about recommending the Rabbit/Golfs with the 2.5 litre 5 cylinder engine. While the engine may not be as refined as a BMW engine but its very strong and the car in general is extremely reliable (no unusual or expensive breakdowns/fixes to date). Over the 7 years we have owned this car the maintenance costs have been orders of magnitude lower than on my BMW.

Not fast but bulletproof
We bought ours in 2010 with 44,000 km from Oakville VW. It now has 169,000 km on it and has been very little trouble. The five cylinder engine is not that powerful or fuel efficient and can be noisy when revved above 4000 rpm but most of the time the engine is running at less than 2000 rpm where it is smooth and quiet. This car feels very long legged when cruising on the highway where the engine is only turning at around 1700 rpm. The car is spacious inside and feels like a much lager car. With 169,000 km on the engine it gets through 1 litre of oil every 10,000 km but we change the oil every 10,000 km which is less than the VW recommended interval. Spend a bit extra on routine maintenance to save on major repairs. Services are alternated between Jiffy Lube for just oil and the dealership for other stuff. We've debated selling it but it runs so well its simply not worth it at this stage. I would say to anyone don't fear about buying one with 150,000 km or more on it. Provided it has been well maintained an can see this engine easily lasting 300,000 km or more.

Comfortable and Sporty
I have never driven and car this size that felt so comfortable and safe. We loved it so much we just bought a 2013 VW golf 5 door with the 2.5, pretty much the same car. The 2.5 liter is packed full of power and the car handles is great and with a set of snow tires it performed well in the winter months. I put average for fuel economy only because I had cars of the same size give a tiny bit better mileage with way less performance. the car has never let me down.

Perfect Commuter Car!
A pleasure to drive, power and torque with the inline 5 cylinder.
Interior is a beauty and the ride feels safe and solid. No major engine work and the car runs like a beauty.
Would defiantly buy again. Great for a commute as it is fuel efficient! Not to mention the hatch back and folding rear seats offer a tone of room which make the car practical for sports, moving, etc.

It's an awesome car
First and foremost, you cannot go wrong with a VW! The ride is wonderful, no road noise, comfortable, sporty, quiet engine and roomy for a 3 door. Fuel economy, 500km/tank minimum. It has loads of power and torque. The steering feels precise with a good on-center feel and the interior is very high-quality. I have only owned VW's and this one has been put together very nicely.

VW Rabbit
This was the first car that I owned and it was amazing to drive around town and on the highways. Zippy and quick but also good on gas.
The only reason I am selling is because I don't drive to work any more. Otherwise I would keep this car till I die

Mr. Reliable
I have had this car for 1.5 years now, and absolutely love it. I wouldn`t think of selling it, if it wasn`t for the new addition to our family. It is a great relaible car, excellent fuel economy, and all around amazing car. It`s a fast moving car, and gets you to where you have to go in good timing. Everyone should experience Volkswagen Rabbit`s.

I love my Rabbit! It handles beautifully both in the city and on the highway. I have no complaints about anything and I intend to drive the car until it dies, although I suspect I may die before it does! I'm now a committed VW owner!

Lots of Pep!
I have alwyas been impressed with this car. It has lots of power and I never had to worry about merging onto the highway. The manual transmission makes it more fun!!
My favourite though is the lower back support.

Great car
This is a great car for both city driving and road trips. Though it isn't good fully loaded with adults it is excellent with two adults and kids. Has a lot of power, and rides monthly. Also love the trip tonic clutch.

It's very reliable and fun to drive
I have had this car for 6 years now and have had very few issues in terms of maintenance. It is super easy and fun to drive. Plus because it is a hatchback it is very useful as a car. Overall its fantastic and I would buy one again.

Great Economical Car
My two door rabbit provides a very sporty outlook, while having a comfort interior as well. Compared to driving other similar cars, the vw rabbit is relatively steady, even when going on high speed. Even though it is considered as a smaller car, it is very spacious inside, including back seats. This car is very convenient to make modifications to as well (both exterior or performance). Controls are extremely user friendly and straight-forward. Since it is a hatchback, it is super convenient for moving purposes; as well as for people who love outdoor sports like snowboarding or fishing. It is very convenient to transport your lovely pet animal as well. The only problem I have with this car is that I find the acceleration slower than what I wanted. Other than that, I would strongly recommend this car to my family and friends.

Rare Rabbit
I love this car. My only two complaints are I keep driving it in "S" because I love the performance, both accelerating and decelerating and also I use premium fuel, which adds up to extra driving cost over time. My other complaint is that the seats are a little too small (or am I a little too big?!). Very reliable car (no problems in six years of driving over 70 K) and fun to drive!

Great on highways!
The VW Rabbit is a fun, nimble city car with oomph under the hood. It has precise, German steering and a sporty yet not jarring connection to the pavement. The fuel economy is fine on the highway but it's less than desirable in the city.
