Fun car to drive
I've owned my GTI for 7 years and have loved driving it. The car has a good interior volume and packs a lot for a 3 door sports car.

2002 Volkswagen GTI

Luxury car in a small package
The GTI is a great car with a few minor quibbles. Reliability is mid grade and some parts can be a little pricey. Getting the timing belt done, for example, is an expensive proposition.
If you can look past those issues, its a fun driver. A 1.8T newer than 2002 nets you 180hp. As far as support there is a huge community out there for the do it yourselfers to draw upon. If you can find one that hasn't been abused, you'll have a lot of fun.
