2002 Porsche 911

Trim: Carrera C4 Cabriolet
by AndrewL on 11-03-2014
Reliable Performance
The performance and reliability of the 2002 Porsche C4 Cabriolet must be experienced. Having been a Porsche owner and driver for the past 20 years, this is my favorite to drive. The Carrera is quieter than the Caymen or Boxter with more horsepower. This is how a sports car should feel.

second generation 996
Many improvements were made by Porsche in 2002 (stiffer, wider body, new front and rear fascias, better looking head and tail lights (remember the "fried egg lights" that few Porschephiles liked in the first 996 from '98-'01?), stiffer and stronger suspension, more horsepower - the list goes on and on. The 2002 911 (996) has proven to be an extremely reliable vehicle , with fantastic fuel mileage, without some of the mechanical issues that the 997's are already starting to show. Being the second version of the first of the water cooled 911's, Porsche really had to get this one right and they did. Fantastic vehicle especially on the used car market where today they are roughly a third of what they were worth when new! Find a low mileage one that hasn't been raced or tracked. you will love it. There really is no substitute.

Porsches Are Unlike Any Other Cars
Whenever I drive a Porsche, I am reminded what great cars they are. I own two, and one is over 10 years old. It drives better than my new cars. If you have never owned a Porsche you should try one.

2002 Porsche 911

Trim: 4S

Drive like dream
I've owned and drove many cars, have owned several Porsches, Cayman S, Boxter S, 996 911 S, 993 911 S, and now 996, 911 4S and regret why didn't buy one before all these years.

This car is glued to the road at any speed, cuts corner almost at any speed without loosing it one bit. Once you own a 911 4S you never feel as good driving any other car out there.

Somehow it feels more secure driving this car than any other car, even my Lexus's 470 SUV which is like a tank doesn't feel this good or this safe for some reason, you know you never loose control over your steering or breaking, you know you're in control all the way all the time especially at the corners or when you just want to push and go, if you know what I mean!

Obviously I'm talking about the ones with manual transmission, car with new high performance tires and everything running like new.

I would personally never buy or even drive an automatic Porsche, there's no point as its mostly the manual shifting and sound of the engine that you control that makes Porsche even more spacial, No wonder they're so expensive to buy when new but also keep their value so well,.

Have you ever wondered why you hardly ever see any porsche 911 being towed behind a tow truck going to a garage? Well because they hardly ever break down! Yes that's true.

To be fair I should also mention they're not too expensive to service or repairs in comparison to many other cars out there.

All in all, would I recommend to anyone else to buy a 911 4S? Absolutely, especially if you love life and you're a happy person but as another review said "buy yourself the best radar you can as you'll surly needed even if you normally don't speed".

Reliable - Drive cross country
Oil changed with synthetic every 5000 kms. Interior is in excellent condition. No door dings. Paint is original and in above average condition. The Cross suspension setup takes this C4S to another level of handling.

Solid sports car
Owned this car for 5 years, 30K kms. Have had a number of little problems that had to be fixed (stuck key, water pump), but nothing extraordinary for a 10 year old car. IMS failure is known to occur, but usually happens with poor maintenance. As with any car, a little preventative maintenance goes a long ways.

A Vehicle That Puts This Silly Grin on Your Face!
I am by no stretch of the imagination a mechanically-inclined individual. However, I do know what I like and from the first time I saw a new C4S at the local Porsche dealership almost ten years ago I knew that this was the car I had to own. The only thing I didn't know what it would take me almost a decade to make that a reality. I have not for a single moment ever regretted purchasing this vehicle.

Pros:
- beautiful exterior styling, especially when looking at the back end
- all-wheel-drive that actually performs so that you CAN drive this vehicle in the winter (I live in Calgary)
- torque-galore that puts this silly grin on your face as you're chewing up kilometres down the twisty highway!
- quality, functional interior built around the driver
- excellent factory stereo
- low maintenance
- the sound

Cons:
- maintenance costs - make sure you find yourself a good independent mechanic
- fuel economy - what did you expect?? It is VERY hard to be a passive driver in this car!
- passenger comfort - my wife despises getting in this car because it is low and you can feel every bit of the road
- cargo space
- cup holders - I learned this the hard way - they're pretty much useless

Would I recommend this vehicle to others? Absolutely! Just make sure you purchase a good radar detector as well!
