2005 Nissan Altima

Trim: 2.5 S
by Mayur on 09-28-2015
Reliable and Consistent performance car
I have used Nissan for last 10 yrs. and found Altima one of the best in performance, reliability and with best resale value. It can easily run 200K+ if maitained well with regular servicing. Very sturdy and reliable specially in winter during snowy roads.
Best in class with its competitors - Camry and Accord; both price wise and look wise as well as inline with performance.
I love it!

2005 Nissan Altima

Trim: 3.5 SE 5 Spd Manual With Navi
by 63r01d on 05-24-2014
Great car but lots of design flaws
Ive owned this car for around 7 years. First ill list the things I like.

It has great power and decent fuel economy. I like the 5 spd manual over nissans 6 speed. It has wider gears. The navigation system was pretty cool for its time, its is not touch screen though. The sun roof is a decent size and is tinted. The bose stereo has great sound and bass. Its got a 6 cd chager. Cruise control is great and responsive. I also like the steering wheel mounted controls. The trunk has lots of room for shopping, or a stroller, or even a sound system if you like.

Theres no aux port for the stereo. The carpet on the floor isnt sealed so if you get salt on it in the winter, its ends up rusting the floor panels out quickly. Because the v6 is horizontally mounted (front wheel drive car) to change the rear 3 spark plugs is a nightmare. You need to take the whole intake manifold out. something that normally takes 30 minutes, takes hours. This motor has issues with the rear variable valve timing solenoid. They had a recall for it, but it still breaks after. Myself and many other people with this motor in various cars have issues with the timing chain tensioner. Let me tell you, if the whole timing chain needs to be replaced, the whole engine has to come out of the car. Very very stupid design. I currently have a ticking timing chain because the tensioner is broken. The side view mirrors are 2 piece, so if someone hits the outside of them, the plastic breaks and the cover falls off. Again, another design flaw..

great reliable car
I have the 2.5S Extra. Excellent driving car. Still solid, no sqeaks and rattles. Gets good fuel mileage. Haven't had one issue with this vehicle, just the regular maintenance. If equipped with good tires, it handles winter roads with ease. This is the wifes daily driver and she does a fair bit of highway in central alberta. With the past couple wild winters, has never left her stranded or stuck. With almost 180kms on the clock, it still runs and drives great and has no signs of dying soon.
I'd recommend it.

Trim: 3.5 SE No Leather
by TheViking on 11-26-2013
NISSAN ALTIMA
The nissan Altima 3.5 is in my opinion one of the best used vehicle on the market. It gets great fuel economy and still has awesome power when needed. the car has a full size feel as far as space inside and handels nimbley as it should. Large trunck space and fold down rear seats allows for lots of cargo room.

Great Power, comfort and Space
I drive the 3.5 SE. the leather is one of the best for a non luxury car. Can easily say the space and comfort is one the best in its class. The speed of the 3.5 engine is excellent, but as expected is not great on gas in the city. I had the typical rusted out floorboard that most Nissan Altima's will get, so rust proofing is a must.

Maintenance typical on a midsize car, and I will be buying another Altima when I buy a new car.

Well thought out, executed medium-sized car with good handling.
As someone noted, the 2005 Altima incorporated a major revision of that generation from 2002 - 2006. The car is visually quite appealing. Plus nice handling because of independent Multi-link rear suspension.

Amenities wise the car is quite well equipped. Replacement parts are widely available and their quality are impressive.
Come for a test drive and you'll know right the way what I mean.
Addendum: During the past winter I have had rust proofing done on the car - all interior panels and under body with a heavier oil. This way rust development is kept to minimum.

Its an amazing car
Its a reliable little four door saloon with room for the kids but a race car feel to it. Low profile tires, standard, sports suspension, it handles like a dream but wont reduce your spine to jelly. Excellent breaks, excellent sound system, excellent performance. Its fun but also practical. Beautiful to look at and beautiful to drive.

The newer models are better
The car is a good run for power, but drains alot of gas. It's getting old, with the wear and tare of old age. I find that I like the newer altimas better especially since they are more fuel efficient. The model is well trimmed and smaller. The 2005 model had its time, but of course when you see the newer model you'd rather have the new toy.

Great Car Used
This care has been great for me. Bought it used after 5 years with 50000KM. Only had to do a brake change. There was a problem with the camshaft sensor because it was made of plastic and I needed to have it replaced, but all altimas had this problem. Great trunk space and the back seats are very spacious. For a tall person, my legs are not cramped up in the drivers seat, I have ample room to readjust for long drives.

Great sport sedan
I purchased this 2005 Altima used, have owned it since 2008 Wanted something with some power and sport styling and 4dr. Opted for the fully loaded 3.5L, leather heated seats , sunroof etc. Previous car was a Toyota Solara V6 and to date my Altima has been pretty much perfect except for an alternator that went out. Other than that it has been routine maintenance, oil, brakes which is the norm. I would actually consider getting a newer version of the Altima which I usually don't do.
.
Pro's: Acceleration, styling for its class, Pricepoint, looks better than Camry and Accord in my opinion. Very Reliable

Cons: More prone to rust than other cars according to my mechanic. Little heavy on gas but I went for V6. Not a fan of the plastic wood trim

Performance import sedan owners should thank Nissan
Every FWD sedan owners owe Nissan a note of thanks for taking the 'old-man's' car sector to the next level. Power is up (260hp), cornering is decent due to Nismo spec anti-roll bars. Brakes are solid, and not prone to fade unless you're punishing them. The coup de gras is a 6 speed close-ratio trans which keeps things lively, and 6th gear keeps highway revs at 2250 or so. Interior noise is acceptable, but not quite kitten whisper level, and on this car, that's the way it should be.

The only thing I'd like to have seen with this is a limited slip differential. Peg-legging on a corner going over 40km/h happens a little too often. Otherwise, the car has had its problems, notably the rear brakes and currently the a/c (which is not the norm for the cars as I understand). This model also has a problem with clutch pedal drop, which is possible to fix by flushing the fluid and replacing with DOT 4.

I'd buy this vehicle again, but only with the 6spd manual, and a fresh set of tires.

My thoughts on this...
It offers a smooth ride as well as a convenient six cd changer that allows a good variety of music, the size of the car makes it easy to park and turning in reverse is great. Overall, I think that it's a fine vessel.

Good value ride for a recent graduated college student
This car is spacious for anyone with a family in mind. If this is the only car your family has a young male or female can cruise around in the sedan and still look cool. Its' great on fuel and has a decent kick when you press down on the accelerator (if the driver is the only person in the car). Since i bought this car in 2010 i have not had any troubles with the transmission engine exhaust or otherwise besides basic maintenance and basic wear and tear.

What you have to watch out for is there has been a recall on the camshaft sensor which caused the car to have troubles starting after some time. and although dealerships will tell you as per the recall they were replaced or has been for your car. I found out this was not the case with my car, the dealership or where ever said initially they changed it the technician had lied and the plastic malfunctioning sensor was never changed to the new updated metal sensor. I am really disappointed in nissan since this is my first car.
