Ford Focus 1997-2017Change

For close to $30k for a Focus, you'd expect a little bit better build quality than a Lada. At 40,000km the rust started and Ford Canada would do NOTHING about it because it hadn't "rusted through". Just shameful build quality. Now, it was fun to drive with plenty of "get-up-and-go", but that's where the positives stop for this car. Boost lag is terrible as well. The fit and finish was simply awful on this car. If you've never experienced a "well built car", you MIGHT be impressed by the ST. If you're after a turbo car, buy literally ANYTHING else. This will leave you with miles of repairs, rough idles, and failed sound symposers. Yes, that's a thing.

I owned a 2003 Focus wagon for 7 years. It's a great drive, very peppy and handles really well on turns. Great interior space; I used the trunk to its full potential for work many times.

That's about all the car's pluses though. The car turned out to be VERY unreliable. Non-stop work required on the front suspension, had to replace the distributor caps and wiring at about 175,000. Spent almost $3000 trying to figure out why the car wouldn't start after I turned it off after using the A/C. Turns out it had a faulty emission control valve.

Oh and did I mention the rust? No rocker panels left to speak of when I got rid of it. And this in a car I took care of and oil sprayed every year.

Unless you're paying less than $500, AVOID these cars.

Decided to get a new vehicle....price and time was right.
Trouble is after purchasing the new vehicle...I wish I would have kept it. It is a good little car, I like the sound system better than the new, the heater warms and blows better, I like the console and cup-holders/storage spots better than the new as well. Also the position and how you sit in this car is far better.
It has not been a " lemon " at all.
Never let me down....if this same car was brand new and selling at a good price I would buy it again hands down!

Larger space for cargo. Super clean for cars at this age. Engin is running like a young horse. And the price is well below market. With 4 snow tires, you could save more than $500, plus a traler pakage, that worth $300. Gas mileage is as good as new car. Well mainteined, never missed any oil change. Never have any repare.

Purchased the car with ease. It was delivered to my expectation. I have never had any car malfunctions. Very efficient on gas. Smooth to drive. The 5 speed transmission gives complete driving control of the car. The mechanics and structure of the car have stood to my expectations. The features within the car are positioned conveniently. The car is user friendly, easy to fit into parking spaces. Hatchback!!! Back seats fold down for occasional large loads. I have been very pleased with my purchase and feel happy to have made it.

we are on our 3rd focus in 15 years- loved each of these cars! they're reliable and easily maintained. just got a 2014, 2 years old and looks brand new - very good resale value on them.

I had a great ride with this car. Small enough to park anywhere but big enough to make me feel safe on the road. Always there to get me out of a jam with some serious speed and agility. Great sunroof for the summer. While the dashboard could be better, great speakers and very intuitive controls.

Hard to use only 100 letters. Just over 2 yearrs old and transmission is faulty. They patch it after another 8000 km. Now I am over 100,000 km, warranty over because I needed to wait for a part. They will not honour warranty. Still paying for a car I cannot drive! Nobody willing to help. Customer Service doesn't return calls. Leave message after message. They want me to pay $725 + tax to tear it apart then they will let me know if they can help me. I pay $340.00 @ month on payments, who can afford that cost as well? I went in at 90,000 km. In December of 2015. Part arrived late Fevruary of 2016, I was now at 98,000 km. After part was put in I returned at 100,350 km. They said no longer under warranty. Wow, just got to love Ford, NOT. Car was alright, but they used cheap parts. Service is terrible. They are always scheduling weeks ahead for service, that should ttell us something. Their vehicles always need repair. This transmission is a problem, just google Ford Focus, transmission and see what pops up. Could continue but I think you get my drift-----NOT A GREAT CHOICE IF YOU WANT RELIABLE!!

Not my car, but have driven it a lot. Let's start out with saying its a budget car. If you don't want something that's loud, not comfy and poor build quality than don't get it. If you want something that's dirt cheap, peppy, reliable, and good fuel mileage with cheap insurance costs than you want this car.

Pros; it's rather quick for being a 4 cylinder, handles very well nice tight steering, it gets pretty good fuel mileage, it's not as good as let's say a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla, but it's good. I love the station wagon design of the car. Looks great. Love the sound of the turn signals. Heated seats. Other than that, there's nothing that stands out.


Cons; 4 speed automatic transmission, very unsupportive seats, not good for long drivers over 2 hours. Very very loud on the highway, like loud to the point where you can't hear the radio. Radio quality is horrendous. Worst I've ever heard. The whole interior is made out of plastic, so expect everything to rattle.
Does not go over bumps well at all, every little bump comes into the cabin of the car, it sounds like you're dropping something on the ground. Just smashes over the bumps.

Arm rests are bad. Interior design is nasty too. Steering wheel is uncomfortable for long trips as well. Doors don't seem solid, they seem light and flimsy. Let's just say when Ford designed this car, it wasn't to be comfortable. Gas peddle is WAY too touchy. Press it too hard and you'll get a speeding ticket.

Overall; budget conscious people ... It's a great car. Picky people like me, don't do it. You'll be disappointed.

The last of the Focus Wagons and what a loss when it went out of production. It handles like a car at twice the price for that era and it's got guts and a great sound to boot.
The interior is somewhat of an afterthought but the exterior still looks modern. This baby can haul a lot of stuff.
At 8 years old everything still works. It's got the odd rattle and squeak but that's a product of the less than stellar fit and finish.

Drove many highway miles to Florida and this car was actually quite comfortable considering my 6'2" frame. Seats are a little lacking. Quiet ride, good mileage and with the manual transmission it had plenty of go-go even with A/C on. Only issue I had was with a bad throttle body that went at 125000km. Great in snow with snow tires on all 4 corners. Would buy another one in a minute. Replaced this with a 2011 Jeep Compass which is NOT a good car. (Needed it to tow behind motorhome and pull boat out of water with 4x4).

Very comfortable ride. One can completely rely on this for longer journeys. Everything about this car is so good. But then you do not want the car sitting home while you are on vacation for more than six months.

handles amazing, very fast for a 2.0L 4 banger. Although very torquey its very fast and very easy to handle.
interior design is second to none, the mircosoft sync is a very nice touch, allowing for mobile device or mp3 or iPod hook up very convenient and very fun to use! very sporty for a standard edition.
Id highly recommend heated seats, very nice for the winter!
Fuel economy isn't great in the cold. however summer time is better for it adding an additonal 100kms to the fuel milage per tank.

all in all very nice car, technology is amazing for a domestic brand vehicle id recommend to anybody looking for a newer vehicle!

This car is wonderfully fuel efficient, fun to drive, and reliable. In my experience, a manual transmission is far superior to automatic when driving in the snow and slush of our Ontario winters.

Fully loaded car, you will love interior neon lights, Bluetooth, fog lights, leather interior , etc features.

it handles great in the snow and responds well. has good power. it shifts smoothly and is very good on gas. I want a bigger car because I have tall men in my family . a bit too compact for me.

Its been a great car, reliable, efficient, great options for the price I paid. Compared to our Toyota Matrix, its on a completely different level.

This car never give me any problems, just oil changes done every 4000kms. Motor runs very good is almost like new, motor very clean no leaks everything dry as a bone.
The consumption of Gas is very low comparing with cars of same class 9 litres /100k.
Driving Manual is very good take us from snow spots.

In 2012 we rented a Focus to drive the Pacific Coast highway in California. It was perfect. We had the car for a week and we're so impressed. We couldn't stop praising the ride to our friends when we talked about the trip. Fast forward to the present. I was in an accident and broke my right wrist. My current car has a standard transmission. It was impossible for me to drive it and I didn't know if I would ever be able to shift gears manually again. We went out and compared a lot of other cars but, nothing pleased me like the Ford Focus. Turns out my wrist has healed and I can drive the standard transmission still. The Focus will be in my future again.

Car has been wonderful to me. I have up kept it from the day I bought it, and if I could I would definetly get another one like it. Very reliable.

We have owned several Focus and find them an excellence car with plenty of storage room for luggage, shopping, etc.
If you are looking for a very good car this is the one for you.
Reasonably priced

I was fortunate to have received this car as a gift from the family of a dear woman I looked after for several years. Bless them. I have always had Chevy Blazer's and Equinox's before this car. I have driven this car for 18 months now and it has been such a money saver. It is so easy on gas, so reliable, which has freed up money for other priorities. This car is loaded- moon roof, premium sound, leather, 6 airbags, AC, power doors, windows, heated seats, traction control etc....This is not a car for a couple with a few kids- it was not designed for that. It is obvious that the engineers that designed this vehicle were looking for economy, reliability, while not sacrificing luxury found in other vehicles at triple the price. Good job Ford.

Not the sexiest looking car but it is very reliable and has enough power to enter the highway. Safe for a small family. Excellent on gas both city and highway.
