It is an extremely safe for highway driving
Car has been very reliable and safe vehicle for our travels south and back, pulling a trailer with golf cart for 7 years. We have never had a problem until this year when the battery finally gave out after 8 years. Never had another problem.

2006 BMW X5
The 4.4 BMW X5 is a awesome year round vehicle. It rides great, and is very good in poor driving conditions. This SUV is very luxurious and good on gas.

GORGEOUS VEHICLE
This has been an amazing car for our family. Unfortunately we are in need of a bigger SUV and sadly will have to give this one up. We never had any issues whatsoever with it...this vehicle will make someone very very happy.

Excellent SUV
I have this SUV for a long time now. My wife actually drives it and so far I have experienced no problems with the car. It is reliable, safe, and have lots of power when you need it. It is a gas guzzler but the cost of gas pays out when you drive it with confidence (which is all you need when you have kids sitting in the back seat). I might not buy a new X5 and the only reason for not buying is that it has less storage and I might go for a bigger SUV next time.
Anyways, I love the car and still enjoy the ride whenever I can :)

Simple luxury and excellent performance
I purchased a certified pre-owned 2006 BMW X5 in 2009 and have had an excellent experience overall. First, it looks and feels like a luxury car, and it was a really terrific value as a pre-owned vehicle. Love the panoramic sunroof, adjustable individually heated seats but the best part of winter driving is the heated steering wheel! Lots of space for passengers and for things in the back, which normally houses my 2 big dogs! Smooth driving and feel completely safe in all seasons.
Not so good is fuel economy. I got the 3.0 version, thinking the 4.4 might be better on gas as this car is a beast and with gas prices the way they are, have considered moving to another vehicle.

Comfortable ride
My BMW X5 is comfortable, however there are problems that sometimes prevent me from starting the car (the engine doesn't work, etc.). As well, the price is costly when it comes to repairs, but I've had this car for awhile, so it should be pretty reliable.
It's a great ride and has lots of horse power!

Unreal Ride
This BMW X5 is the best riding SUV i have ever been in and owned. seats handling unmatched for me. Gas is a bit hard if u decide to drive like a race car driver. very roomie i don't have kids but i got 2 dogs and they fit great in the hatch. its an AWD so winter driving is nice and safe.

My BMW X5
The overall aesthetic design of the car is excellent and, handling and appearance are great!. However, the fuel consumption is extremely poor. As well, the front and rear lights often need to be replaced. The censors go off periodically. The cost to replace minor problems such as lights is incredibly high. I find that the details that make a car run smoothly and comfortably such as the electric side mirrors, the lighter charger, front and rear lights and censors have to be frequently replaced in this BMW. Unfortunately, these repairs have to be made at BMW service since they have to be original to BMW, and end up being incredibly expensive. An example of this problem is the side mirrors - they both stopped working electronically and to repair only one cost $1500. I am now in a position to sell the car for a newer model only due to these minor repairs.
The reason I purchase the BMW X5 is for the overall design, performance and safety and, in that regard, they have never disappointed. However, due to difficult economic times, fuel efficiency and cost of minor repairs, these will determine my decision to choose my next car.

Great car to lease, not reliable enough to buy
For such a big SUV the ride is amazing. Acceleration, cornering confidence and overall sportiness are among the best in class. The 6 speed automatic transmission with manual override was a lot of fun too but a little sluggish. Also, the thing produced a beautiful powerful exhaust note making you feel like your driving something very powerful. I have driven older BMW 540i's with the same basic engine and they sounding boring in comparison.
Reliability is a problem with most BMWs and this one is no exception. The 6 speed automatics are actually not bad at all for reliability. The same goes for the 4.4l v8 engine. The problems are in the details. Front suspension bushings gave out, power mirror retractors failed, adaptive headlights malfunction, rain sensing wipers malfunctioned.
There was a clunking under certain types of acceleration they never was able to be fixed.
It was fun while it lasted.
