NEW FOR 2014:
- New colour: Sun Fusion.
With the demise of the Honda Insight, Toyota’s pint-sized Prius c easily retains its title of Canada’s most affordable hybrid vehicle. Not only that, it’s a true hybrid – meaning you can drive it exclusively on electric power.
Based on the Yaris hatchback, but wrapped up in styling to make it look like a Prius, the c offers urban-friendly dimensions that make it a doddle to drive in congested cities.
Despite being smaller than the Prius, the c features the same powertrain, so it feels zippier off the line. It’s no more efficient, though, which is fine given that it's already one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles on sale.
The Prius c uses a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, combined with the Hybrid Synergy Drive hybrid system, nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery, and continuously variable transmission (CVT).
In addition to Normal Mode, the Prius c can also be programmed into EV Mode, allowing battery-only driving at low speeds in certain conditions; and Eco Mode, which helps the driver achieve better fuel economy.
The Prius c comes in two different trims - base and Technology - each with their own available upgrade package.
Standard features include 15-inch steel wheels, four-speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA audio with auxiliary and USB input, Bluetooth capability, air conditioning, power locks, power windows with driver auto-up/down, rear spoiler, power heated mirrors, body colour door handles and mirrors, LED taillights, outside temperature gauge, multi-information display with ECO drive monitor, flat-folding rear seat bench, tilt/telescopic steering wheel with audio and climate controls, all-season and carpeted floor mats, keyless entry, and airbags (front, front seat, side curtain, driver's knee).
Upgrade Package adds six-speakers, driver seat height adjustment, cruise control, variable intermittent wipers, tonneau cover, rear centre console box, premium cloth seats, 60/40 split/fold rear seat, and leather-covered instrument panel.
Technology trim adds (to Standard model) 15-inch alloy wheels, variable intermittent wipers, 6.1-inch display audio system with navigation, driver seat height adjustment, 60/40 split folding rear seat, touch tracer display, cargo area carpet, tonneau cover, push button start, driver door handle touch lock/unlock, cruise control, rear centre console box,
Premium Package adds 16-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, heated front seats, SofTex-trimmed seats, power moonroof, and synthetic leather-wrapped steering wheel
