Tesla's most recent model is the Y. It's a compact electric crossover that can be fitted with a very small pair of rear seats to hold seven in a pinch.
What's New / Key Changes from Last Year
Just a couple of years into its life, Model Y changes are small. Tesla has dropped radar from the sensor suite, relying on cameras. It also has cosmetic changes to the center console and some buttons. Note that Tesla often makes changes outside of the traditional model year, so there may be differences depending on month of production.
Available Trims
As of this writing, Tesla offers the Model Y in Long Range and Performance variants. The former makes 384 hp, the latter 456.
Standard Features
Model Y comes with 18-inch wheels, a black interior, an all-glass roof, a 15-inch central touchscreen, traffic sign recognition, 360-degree camera views, wireless smartphone charging, vegan leather seating, automatic climate control, heated front seats with power adjustments, heated/power-folding side mirrors, and internet media connectivity.
Key Options
On Model Y, the main options are paint and interior colour. Tesla also offers its "Full Self-Driving Capability". At time of writing, this includes navigate on autopilot, a feature that can make some lane changes without driver steering, autopark, summon. Tesla promises that models with this option will be able to activate autonomous driving capability in the future.
Fuel economy
Model Y Long Range has an estimated range of 525 km. The Performance model is rated for 488.
Competition
Competition for the Model Y includes the Jaguar I-Pace, Volvo XC40 Recharge, BMW iX3, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Volkswagen ID.4, and Audi Q4 e-tron.
