2015 Scion FR-S

2015 sees a handful of minor updates for what is one of the best affordable driver’s cars on the market. Although a soft ride was probably one of the least-heard complaints about the sporty coupe, Scion’s engineers have stiffened the front suspension and have fitted tweaked rear shocks in order to further reduce body roll.

On the outside, you’ll be able to pick out the updated FR-S by looking out for a few key details. First, there’s a new shark-fin antenna which replaces the old mast; there are also new exhaust tips that are flush with the rear diffuser. On the inside there’s carbon-effect dash trim, automatic headlights, and a new key.

Also new to the FR-S range this year is the Release Series 1.0, which can easily be spotted by its retina-searing Yuzu yellow paint, full TRD body kit and quad exhaust tips. Other upgrades include a TRD leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, sports seats from the global GT86 model, dual-zone climate control, and a proximity key with push-button start.

The Scion FR-S is powered by a 2.0-litre horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine featuring both port and direct fuel injection; it develops 200 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. It’s available with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with paddles and automatic rev-matching for downshifts.

FR-S features include an eight-speaker 6.1-inch Pioneer touchscreen display audio system, USB port, Bluetooth, power locks, keyless entry, power windows, cruise control, tilt and telescoping steering column, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, aluminum pedals, 12-volt power outlet, 17-inch alloy wheels, power adjustable heated mirrors, and tire pressure monitoring.

The Release Series 1.0 adds full TRD body kit, TRD three-piece rear spoiler, TRD fender badge, leather-wrapped TRD steering wheel and shift knob, unique sports seats, dual-zone climate control, proximity key with push-button start. It is available exclusively in Yuzu.
