Nissan continues to upgrade its midsize Frontier pickup for model year 2014 with additional standard equipment. From a mechanical and appearance perspective, though, the truck is carried over unchanged.
The base S trim benefits most from these upgrades, adding air conditioning, Bluetooth, cruise control, an upgraded audio system, sunglasses holder, and steering wheel audio and cruise controls as standard. All King Cab models get a standard sliding rear window, while heated cloth seats become standard on PRO-4X and SV with Premium Package. Models equipped with the optional navigation system feature Connect Apps plus enhanced voice recognition and smartphone integration.
The Frontier is available in King Cab or Crew Cab configuration. The entry-level King Cab S, which comes in 4x2 only, uses a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, with five-speed manual transmission or optional five-speed automatic. All other trucks use a 4.0-litre V6. The King Cab SV 4x2 uses a five-speed automatic transmission; the King Cab SV 4x4 and PRO-4X use a six-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic. The Crew Cab SV 4x2 uses a five-speed automatic transmission; the Crew Cab SV 4x4 uses a six-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic; and the Crew Cab PRO-4X and SL use a five-speed automatic.
Features on S (available in King Cab 4x2 only) include 15-inch steel wheels, full-size spare tire, chrome grille, rear privacy glass, long bed, tailgate spoiler, locking tailgate, cargo bed light, air conditioning, Bluetooth, sunglass holder, cruise control, three 12-volt DC power outlets, fold-flat front passenger seat, forward-facing rear flip-up seats, cloth seat trim, carpeted flooring, AM/FM/CD stereo system.
S trim can be optioned with the S Value Package, which adds remote keyless entry, power locks, power windows with driver one-touch auto-down, dual heated power outside mirrors, anti-theft system, immobilizer key system, sun visors with vanity mirrors and extension, tilt steering column, sliding rear window, and 16-inch steel wheels.
SV trim (available in King Cab and Crew Cab, in 4x2 or 4x4) adds (to S), two-speed transfer case, hill descent control (4x4), hill start assist (4x4), 16-inch aluminum alloy wheels, front tow hook (4x4), dual heated power outside mirrors, body-colour front bumper, sliding rear window, rear defroster, bed rail caps, power door locks with auto-locking feature, power windows with driver one-touch auto-down, remote keyless entry, cruise control, front map lights, voltage and oil pressure gauges, tilt steering column, sun visors with vanity mirrors and extension, driver's seatback pocket, overhead sunglasses storage, 60/40 flip-up rear bench seat, 4.3-inch display audio system, illuminated steering wheel-mounted audio controls, auxiliary input jack, MP3/WMA capability, USB port, and satellite radio.
All SV trims can be optioned with the SV Premium Package, which adds RearView Monitor, rear sonar system, dual zone automatic temperature control, in-cabin microfilter, auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated seats, digital compass, outside temperature display, factory-applied spray-on bedliner, Utili-track Channel System with four tie-down cleats, and six-speaker audio (King Cab only).
PRO-4X trim (available in King Cab and Crew Cab, in 4x4 only) adds (to SV) 5-speed automatic transmission (Crew Cab), 16-inch machined-finish aluminum alloy wheels, skid plates (for oil pan, fuel tank, and transfer case), automatic on/off headlights, fog lights, rood rack with crossbars, splash guards, satin chrome grille, body-colour front and rear bumpers, body-colour door handles and mirrors, moonroof, rear sonar system, standard bed, Utili-track Channel System with 4 tie-down cleats, factory-applied spray-on bedliner, RearView Monitor, dual zone automatic temperature control, in-cabin microfilter, auto-dimming rearview mirror, digital compass, outside temperature display, mutli-function trip computer, first aid kit, 8-way driver's seat, PRO-4X embroidered cloth trim, heated front seats, white contrast interior stitching, leather-wrapped steering wheel, chrome vent accents, white-faced gauges, and six-speaker (King)/ten-speaker (Crew) Rockford Fosgate audio system.
