Mitsubishi Canada’s entry-level crossover is the RVR, a subcompact model that helped create this now-popular segment more than a decade ago. Notably, Canada is the only North American market that uses the RVR name; this car is called Outlander Sport in the U.S. and it’s known as the ASX in Mexico and many other global markets.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
This year, the RVR comes standard with auto on/off LED headlights and rain-sensing wipers, both of which migrate down from upper trim levels. Also, SE, SEL and LE gain blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. We’ve detailed a few other changes further down in this article.
Mitsubishi offers the RVR in ES, SE, SEL, LE, and GT trims. ES and SE start with FWD and a 2.0L four-cylinder engine, and the ES 2.0L model can be optioned with AWD.
Optional in SE and standard in higher trims is a 2.4L engine that comes standard with AWD. The sole transmission is a continuously variable automatic (CVT).
ES models come with automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, 16-inch steel wheels with covers, heated side mirrors, heated front seats, automatic A/C, remote keyless entry, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, and four-speaker audio.
SE adds blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, 16-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, leather-trimmed steering wheel/shifter, and a six-speaker stereo.
SEL gains a new-for-2022 heated steering wheel, and also gets 18-inch wheels, faux-suede seating, and passive keyless entry.
LE gets trim-specific black wheels, and a new-for-2022 remote engine starter.
GT adds lane departure warning, forward collision mitigation, a panoramic sunroof, power-folding side mirrors, power driver’s seat, leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a nine-speaker sound system.
Mitsubishi’s fuel consumption estimates start at 9.7/7.8 L/100 km (city/highway) with the 2.0L engine and FWD, and 10.1/8.2 L/100 km with AWD. The 2.4/AWD combo is rated for 10.3/8.3 L/100 km.
With the RVR, Mitsubishi competes with the Mazda CX-30, Honda HR-V, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Buick Encore GX, Subaru Crosstrek, Toyota Corolla Cross, Nissan Qashqai, Ford Ecosport, Fiat 500X, Jeep Renegade, Hyundai Kona, and Kia Seltos.
