NEW FOR 2016:
- All-new model
Kia’s Sorento enters 2016 completely reworked from the wheels up. A move to a stiff new platform sees marked improvements in refinement, top marks in crash tests, and a slightly larger canvas to display Kia’s latest styling language. In terms of its size, the Sorento is similar to two-row crossovers like the Ford Edge or Nissan Murano, but offers an optional third-row seat when equipped with the optional V6 engine.
The most notable improvement to the new Sorento is in the way it drives. All models now feature dual-flow dampers, plus revised electric power steering. Ride and handling are amongst the best in the segment, and on the move, it’s very quiet – especially the SX trim level, which receives an acoustic windshield and laminated side windows. The interior is chock full of thoughtful touches and details that make it feel more like a premium European vehicle than an affordable family hauler.
The Sorento is available with three engines. A 2.4-litre four-cylinder with 185 hp and a 3.3-litre V6 with 290 hp return from the previous generation, and are joined by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four that makes 240 hp. All engines feature direct injection as standard, and pair to a six-speed automatic transmission. The two four-cylinder engines can be had with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive; the V6 comes standard with AWD. The V6 is now able to tow up to 5,000 lbs – a substantial increase from last year’s 3,500-lb rating.
Trim levels include LX, EX, and SX.
