History/Overview

The Wrangler 4xe is Jeep’s first-ever plug-in vehicle, a hybrid that promises some electric driving. Following its 2021 introduction, it has become one of Jeep’s most popular offerings in North America and is among the best-selling PHEVs in the marketplace.

What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year

New for 2023, buyers of the Wrangler 4xe can now benefit from the Jeep Wave loyalty program.

Available Trims

Jeep offers the Wrangler 4xe in Sahara and Rubicon trim levels. In both, power is from a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine working with an electric motor and goes to all four wheels through an eight-speed transmission.

Standard Features

Sahara trim comes with auto on/off LED headlights/fog lights, heated side mirrors, 20-inch wheels, a three-piece hard top, dual-zone A/C, passive keyless entry, and cruise control. Inside, there’s LED interior lighting, a garage door remote, navigation, an auto-dimming mirror, nine-speaker audio, a 115-volt power outlet, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen.

Rubicon gets 17-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, electronic locking differentials, an electronically disconnecting front sway bar, and a folding soft top with sunroof feature.

Key Options

In both trims, a basic safety package adds blind spot monitoring, rear park assist, and LED taillights; an advanced pack brings forward collision mitigation and adaptive cruise control.

The cold weather pack is where you’ll find heated seats and steering wheel, and remote engine start.

Fuel Economy

Jeep’s fuel consumption estimates are 11.6/11.9 L/100 km (city/highway) in the Wrangler 4xe’s gas-electric hybrid mode, and 4.8 Le/100 km in electric driving. Jeep promises 35 km of battery range on a full charge.

Competition

The Wrangler 4xe’s closest competitor is the Toyota RAV4 Prime; truly, though, the 4xe stands apart as a plug-in hybrid designed for extreme off-road driving.

On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by an FCA dealer during recall 95B (Transport Canada recall no. 2024-566) may not be effective. As a result, another repair is required. 

On certain vehicles, there could be a problem inside the high-voltage battery that can cause a fire, even while parked with the ignition off. 
Note: This recall only affects 4xe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models. This recall replaces Transport Canada recall no. 2024-566. 

Safety Risk: 
The vehicle could catch fire, even while parked and turned off. 

Corrective Actions: 
To reduce the safety risk, FCA advises not to charge your vehicle, and to park it outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed. FCA Canada will notify owners in writing and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the high-voltage battery pack software. If necessary, the battery pack will be replaced.

On certain vehicles, there could be a problem inside the high-voltage battery that can cause a fire, even while parked with the ignition off. 
Note: This recall only affects 4xe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models. This recall replaces Transport Canada recall no. 2023-627. 

Safety Risk: 
The vehicle could catch fire, even while parked and turned off. 

Corrective Actions:

On certain vehicles, the instrument panel cluster could stop working. As a result, warnings, tell-tales and gauges may not display. 
Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a 3.5" instrument cluster panel.

Warnings, tell-tales and gauges that don't display could increase the risk of a crash.  
 
Corrective Actions: 
FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the instrument panel cluster.

On certain vehicles, the steering column control module may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the driver-front airbag may not inflate in a crash. 
Note: This problem would cause the airbag warning light to turn on.

Corrective Actions: 
FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the steering column control module.

Issue: 
On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the windshield defrost system not to work properly. As a result, the vehicles don't meet the requirements of Canadian regulations. 
Note: This recall only affects plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models.

A windshield defroster that doesn't work may cause reduced visibility and increase the risk of a crash.  

Corrective Actions: 
FCA Canada will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the hybrid control processor (HCP) software.
