Issue: On certain vehicles, the passenger seat belt assemblies may contain defective automatic locking retractors (ALR). As a result, the seat belts may not properly lock to secure a child seat. Note: The vehicle's lower universal anchorage system (UAS) is not affected by this defect and may still be used to secure a child seat. Safety Risk: A seat belt that is used to secure a child restraint but is not properly locked could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Jaguar will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the seat belts. They will be replaced, if necessary.

On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the passenger frontal airbag module. Note: Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace the passenger frontal airbag module before their function would be affected.

On certain vehicles, fasteners securing components of the engine accessory belt drive system may not have been tightened to specification, and could become loose. This could cause a loss of power steering and/or electrical charging system function, and could allow the alternator's positive cable to arc against other components, potentially resulting in a fire. These issues could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect fasteners to and tighten to specification as necessary.

As such, the vehicle could be unwittingly overloaded, which would result in poor vehicles handling characteristics, increasing the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. On certain vehicles, the Power Assisted Steering (PAS) pipes may have been manufactured using a zinc-nickel plating that does not meet the corrosion protection requirements of Jaguar's engineering specification. Over time, the PAS pipes may corrode, which could allow power steering fluid leakage. Loss of PAS fluid could cause a loss of steering power assist, which may result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Also, power steering fluid leakage may contact a hot engine or exhaust component, which could result in a fire. Correction: Dealers will replaced the PAS pipes.

On certain vehicles equipped with a 5.0L engine, the in-tank electric fuel pump may not be correctly activated following a vehicle start-up cycle. The engine may start and continue to operate as normal until the engine fuel demand exceeds the ability for the pump to supply sufficient fuel. The engine can then cut out without warning. Loss of propulsion, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the Engine Control Module.

On certain vehicles, the fuel transfer pipe in the fuel tank assembly may have been kinked or over inserted into the fuel delivery module during fuel tank assembly. This could cause the vehicle to experience fuel starvation whilst indicating the presence of approximately ¼ tank of fuel on the fuel gauge. Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will remove the fuel transfer pipe from the fuel delivery module, reduce the length of the pipe by 6 inches (150mm) and discard the excess pipe. The fuel transfer pipe will then be inserted into an alternative hole on top of the fuel delivery module to prevent over insertion and the tank re-assembled.

On certain vehicles, the instrument cluster speaker wires may fracture as a consequence of an overly aggressive turn signal sound wave form, the volume of which is vehicle speed dependant. At higher speeds the wave form has an amplitude that aggravates the condition where speaker wires could fail. In the event of speaker failure, audible notifications (turn signal, seat belt warning, "lights on" warning, driver's door open, etc.) will cease to function. The loss of audible warnings increases the risk of getting involved in a crash, causing personal injuries or property damages. Correction: Dealers will download the latest software into the instrument cluster and test the directional indicators for an audible notification.
