Overview

Despite its compact size, the Veloster N lives near the top of Hyundai Canada’s sporty car lineup with its speedy turbo engine and racetrack-inspired handling.

What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year

As of 2021, the Veloster N is the only way you can get this car, as Hyundai has killed off last year’s entry-level variants.

To avoid alienating buyers who might have gravitated to the lesser Veloster’s automatic transmission options, Hyundai has added an automatic option to the formerly manual-only Veloster N.

It’s a new eight-speed gearbox that replaces the seven-speed offered in last year’s less-potent Veloster variants. Its coolest trick is its “N Grin Shift” function, which uses turbocharger overboost to increase torque by 7 percent when the driver applies more than 90 percent throttle in the car’s power shift drive mode.

Available Trims

The Veloster N comes in a single trim powered by a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine. The only choice you have to make is between the standard six-speed manual transmission or 2021’s new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Standard Features

The Veloster’s standard exterior and performance features include an electronic limited slip differential, an electronically controlled suspension, passive keyless entry, 19-inch wheels and performance tires, LED headlights and taillights, and heated/power-adjustable side mirrors.

Inside, you get sport seats with cloth/leatherette upholstery, six-way driver and four-way front passenger adjustments, heated front seats, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an eight-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, A/C with automatic temperature control, and a leather-trimmed/heated steering wheel.

Veloster N’s standard safety suite comprises forward collision detection and automatic braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, lane keeping and following assist, and driver attention warning.

Fuel Economy

Hyundai’s fuel consumption estimates for the Veloster N are 10.6/8.3 L/100 km (city/highway) with the six-speed manual transmission, and 12.0/8.6 with the eight-speed automatic.

Competition

With the Veloster N, Hyundai has a competitor for the Volkswagen Golf R, Subaru’s WRX, the Honda Civic Type R, and Mini’s Cooper JCW.
