In 2022, Hyundai marks a dozen years since it entered the hybrid space with a gas-electric version of the Sonata family sedan. The current Sonata Hybrid, introduced in 2020, is the third generation of this mid-size car.

What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year

The 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is unchanged from last year. There are minor changes to the gas-powered Sonata, which is covered in a separate buyer’s guide entry.

Available Trims

Hyundai offers the Sonata Hybrid in a single Ultimate trim level. Power is from a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that works with an electric motor and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Standard Features

Hyundai equips the Sonata Hybrid Ultimate with 17-inch alloy wheels, all-LED exterior lighting with auto on/off headlights, heated side mirrors, passive keyless entry with hands-free trunk opening, and rain-sensing wipers.

Inside, you get heated/ventilated power-adjustable front seats, heated rear seats, leather upholstery, 12-speaker audio, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, head-up driver display, wireless charging, dual-zone automatic A/C, heated steering wheel, digital gauges, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof, and an auto-dimming mirror with integrated garage door remote.

Standard safety assists include forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian/cyclist detection, lane keeping/following assists, automatic high beams, safe exit warning, blind spot/rear cross-traffic collision avoidance assist, driver attention warning, rear occupant alert, blind view monitor, highway driving assist, remote smart park assist, and rear collision avoidance assist.

Competition

The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid’s key competitor is the Toyota Camry Hybrid, boasting what is arguably the biggest name in the segment. Honda makes a hybrid version of its Accord, too.
