On certain vehicles equipped with an anti-lock brake system (ABS), moisture can enter the ABS control module and cause a short circuit.
A short circuit could create a fire risk. This can happen even if the vehicle is parked.
Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to install a relay to power off the ABS control module when the vehicle is turned off.
On certain cars, there may be a problem in the airbag control unit that can cause with airbags to deploy without a crash. As a result, the front airbags and seat belt pretensioners could deploy when the vehicle is stopped or moving at slow speeds.
Airbags or seat belt pretensioners that deploy without a crash could create a risk of injury and may also increase the risk of a crash.
Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your car to a dealer to update the software for the airbag control unit.
Certain vehicles equipped with electric power steering (EPS) may experience a sudden loss of power steering assist that could occur at any time while driving. If the electronic control unit (ECU) were to sense a discrepancy in the torque sensing circuitry of the steering system, and indicator lamp would illuminate in the instrument cluster to inform the driver that steering assist is no longer provided. Steering control could be maintained, as the vehicle will revert to a manual steering mode, but would require greater driver effort. The sudden change in steering may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will update the electric power steering (EPS) control unit.
On certain vehicles equipped with side curtain air bags, a bracket securing the headliner could become dislodged during side curtain airbag deployment and be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will install industrial adhesive strips to the vehicle headliner.
On certain vehicles, the stop lamp switch may fail and cause intermittent operation of the brake lights. Failure of the brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the switch.
