JoshuaEaton Great until it starts to age.... December 18, 2020 GLS
Overall Score
Our Tucson was a nice SUV for many years. The first few years of ownership were great and it worked well. I was very impressed as to how good it worked. After the factory warranty ran out it was still fine but would quickly start to fail. Over the past few years since about 2017, the Tucson has gone downhill. I'm not sure what's going on but its just starting to fall apart at an increasing rate. I'd like to go back to Hyundai but I have lost faith in the brand. Once you get near the 100K mark, it just starts falling apart.

Issue: On certain vehicles, brake fluid could leak into the control module for the antilock brake system (ABS) and cause it to short circuit. Note: This recall replaces recall R0246 (Transport Canada recall number 2023-527). For the Sonata model, only the Sonata Hybrid model is affected by this recall. Safety Risk: A short circuit could create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective Actions: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the fuse for the ABS module. Hyundai recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the tire and loading information label lists a tire pressure for the spare tire. The label should instead read as ''NONE / AUCUN'', as the vehicles are not equipped with a spare tire. Safety Risk: While there is a low risk to safety, listing the correct information on the tire and loading information label is required by Canadian regulations. Issue: Hyundai is conducting a special service campaign that provides anti-corrosion treatment to certain underbody components. Over time, components under the vehicle, including brake lines could corrode. If this happens, a brake line could fail and leak. A brake fluid leak can result in reduced braking. Safety Risk: Reduced braking can cause an extended stopping distance and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the underbody, including the brake lines. Issue: Hyundai Auto Canada is conducting a Product Improvement Campaign that provides an update to the engine control module to detect potential problems before an engine fails. An engine failure would cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. Note: This only affects certain vehicles equipped with a 2.0 L Nu GDI engine. For the Sonata model, only the Sonata Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) models are affected by this campaign. This is an expansion of R0180 (Transport Canada #2021-575). Any vehicle that received a software update under campaign R0180 does not require this update. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident. An engine failure could also create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the engine control module. Note: Hyundai recommends that you should always follow the correct vehicle maintenance schedule, which is printed in the Owner's Manual. If you experience unusual engine noise, reduced power, or a check engine/oil warning light, Hyundai advises you to immediately visit a Hyundai dealership to have your vehicle diagnosed.

Issue: On certain vehicles equipped with a 2.0 L Nu GDI engine, the connecting rod bearings could wear prematurely. As a result, there could be an abnormal knocking noise from the engine and/or the oil pressure warning light may turn on. If you continue to drive the vehicle with worn connecting rod bearings, the engine could fail. An engine failure would cause a sudden loss of power with an inability to restart. In some cases, a damaged connecting rod could puncture the engine block and cause an oil leak. Note: For the Sonata model, only the Sonata Hybrid is affected by this recall. Additional Note: Engine compartment fires can happen for many different reasons. In some cases, there is too much damage to find the cause of a fire. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Oil that leaks onto a hot component could cause a fire. Corrective Actions: Hyundai will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer for an engine inspection test, to determine if there is bearing damage. If damage is found, the engine will be replaced. Dealers will also update the software for the engine control module. On certain vehicles, the secondary hood latch can potentially disengage due to a tolerance build-up between the latch and catch mechanisms. If the vehicle were to be driven with the primary hood latch disengaged, there is a potential that the secondary hood latch may not hold the hood closed as designed while the vehicle is in motion. If this were to occur, it could compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, as well as cause damage to the windshield. These issues could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the secondary hood latch catch with a revised component. Note: There would be a visual warning in the instrument cluster to indicate that the primary latch would be disengaged, and for “Limited” and “Ultimate” trim models, there would be an additional audible warning.
