It's been a decade since Honda last did a wheels-up redo of its top-selling compact Civic, and this is no half-baked attempt. This car truly is all-new, and shows Honda is serious about keeping its compact atop the sales charts as Canada's best-selling car (as opposed to truck; Ford's F-150 remains the best-selling vehicle in the country), where it's been for roughly 17 years.
The really big news is a 1.5L turbocharged engine for EX-T and Touring trims; it makes 174 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. DX, LX and EX versions get a 2.0L four good for 158 hp and 138 lb-ft. A six-speed manual transmission is standard in DX and LX, and a continuously variable automatic (CVT) is optional in LX, and standard in EX, EX-T and Touring. The sporty Si model takes a break this year.
Standard features include driver and front passenger vanity mirrors, outside temperature gauge, Bluetooth, map lights, multi-angle backup camera, one-touch turn signals, power windows with auto up/down for driver and front passenger glass, power door locks with keyless entry, tilt-and-telescopic steering, manual six-way driver and four-way front passenger seats, floor mats, one-piece folding rear seat, four-speaker stereo with steering wheel-mounted controls, five-inch colour LCD screen, USB input, 16-inch steel wheels with covers, capless fuel filler, electric power steering, electric parking brake, hill start assist, body coloured bumpers and door handles, folding door mirrors, LED daytime running lights and taillights, and auto-off headlights.
LX trim adds the HondaLink emergency response system, seven-inch TFT gauge display with driver information interface, two USB inputs, backup camera with dynamic guidelines, acoustic windshield, auto on/off headlights, air conditioning with automatic climate control, rear-seat armrest with cupholders, cruise control, 60/40 split-folding rear seat, heated front seats, eight-speaker display-audio stereo, Bluetooth with text message function, and wi-fi tethering.
EX models get 16-inch aluminum wheels, LaneWatch blind spot monitor, power sunroof, lighted vanity mirrors, speed-sensing variable intermittent wipers, intelligent keyless entry, remote engine start, and walk-away door lock function.
EX-T trim comes with 17-inch wheels, frontal collision warning and autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, decklid spoiler, fog lights, "turbo" badging, and a leather-trimmed steering wheel.
Finally, the Touring model includes LED front turn signals, side mirror-mounted turn signal repeaters, shark fin antenna, auto on/off LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, navigation, wireless smartphone charging, eight-way driver's and four-way front passenger power seats, heated rear seats, leather upholstery, 10-speaker stereo, and satellite radio.
