2019 Honda Accord Hybrid

Honda is making a concerted push into the electrified vehicle segment with a trio of hybrid models that includes a gas-electric version of the mid-size Accord sedan. It’s the only one of the three that is based on a traditional gasoline model; the other two -- the Insight hybrid and Clarity plug-in hybrid (PHEV) -- ride on dedicated gas-electric platforms.

The current iteration of Accord Hybrid arrived last year, and carries forward into 2019 with no changes.

Base and Touring trims share a drivetrain that combines a 2.0L four-cylinder gas engine with an electric motor fed by a battery charged exclusively by the car’s regenerative system. A total of 212 hp goes through a continuously variable transmission to the front wheels.

With the Accord Hybrid, Honda competes against hybrid family sedans like the Hyundai Sonata, Kia Optima and Toyota Camry. The Ford Fusion Hybrid is here, too, but not for long: it’s one of the cars being ditched as that company switches its focus away from sedans in favour of crossovers and SUVs.

Standard features include a suite of active safety items, like forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane departure warning with lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and the LaneWatch blind spot camera display.

All Accord Hybrids also get LED exterior lighting all around, a 7.0-inch digital gauge display, active noise cancellation, dual-zone automatic climate control, multi-angle backup camera, passive keyless entry, 12-way power driver’s seat and four-way manual front passenger seat adjustments, heated front seats, and a 10-speaker stereo that supports the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone platforms.

Touring trim adds blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, navigation, garage door opener, a head-up display, front and rear parking sensors, wireless smartphone charging, power front passenger seat adjustments, heated rear seats, perforated leather upholstery with ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, satellite radio and a wi-fi hotspot.
