NEW FOR 2014:
- All-new model.
Chevrolet knows that the half-ton truck market is an unforgiving place. Customers demand a vehicle that works hard, but also looks good, is comfortable, and is built to last. It also knows that a familiar product is a good thing. In return, pickup owners are some of the most loyal on the planet - and that’s part of the reason why the all-new Silverado looks more like a mid-cycle refresh than an all-new model. But rest assured, this is Chevrolet’s most innovative and advanced pickup truck to date.
Refinement, durability, and efficiency were all top priorities when Chevy designed the new Silverado. Attention to the truck’s aerodynamic profile has made it significantly more efficient on the highway, while selective use of lightweight materials in its construction helped it trim off as much as 200 lbs compared to the outgoing model. Electric power steering and revised suspensions improve roadholding and give it a much more precise feel on the road.
Under the Silverado’s aluminum hood is an all-new engine lineup that includes a 4.3-litre V6, a 5.3-litre V8, and a 6.2-litre V8. Impressively, all have direct fuel injection and cylinder deactivation to lighten the fuel burden. Six-speed automatics are featured across the board, and buyers can choose between two and four-wheel drive.
One of the most frequently criticized aspects of the old Silverado was its cabin; the new one is real step forward. The dramatic new design is visibly upright, but it’s modern and nicely finished with large knobs and straightforward ergonomics. Soft-touch plastics are featured extensively, and up-level models feature plenty of modern tech ranging from Chevy’s latest MyLink touchscreen infotainment system to a vibrating safety seat that buzzes if the lane departure or forward collision warning systems are activated.
The Silverado is available in four trims: WT (1WT, 2WT), LT (1LT, 2LT), and LTZ (1LZ, 2LZ), and High Country.
1WT includes 17-inch painted steel wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, vinyl floor, trip computer with 3.5-inch monochrome display, rear bumper with integrated step, four cargo box tie downs, black door handles, solar tinted glass, cab-mounted cargo area lamps, black manual folding mirrors, locking tailgate, power locks, manual dimming rear mirror, three 12-volt power outlets, tilt steering column, power windows, 40/20/40 split front bench with manual adjustment, 60/40 split folding rear bench, vinyl upholstery, four-speaker audio system (six with Double and Crew Cab), 4.2-inch display audio system with AM/FM/USB/SD card and aux-in jack. 4X4 models add floor-mounted lever-operated two-speed part time transfer case.
2WT adds OnStar, chrome front and rear bumper, tinted rear glass, chrome grille with dark mesh insert, power exterior mirrors with black caps, 17-inch painted steel wheels with stainless cladding, remote keyless entry, 4.2-inch display audio system with MyLink, Bluetooth, and satellite radio.
