The M3 is all new for 2015, based on the newest BMW 3-series chassis. The biggest difference is that the M3 is now four doors only. The two-door gets a new name and is now the M4. The M3 is the go-to compact sports sedan, and has been for nearly 20 years, only gaining in grip, speed, and luxury. The M3 comes with a 3.0L twin-turbocharged inline six replacing the old V8. But with direct injection and 425 hp, it's a more than adequate replacement. A six-speed manual is standard, and a seven-speed dual clutch automatic is an option.
Inside the M3 comes standard with push button start, a heated leather wheel, and heated power M-sport front seats with leather seats front and rear. There is an 8.8-inch display for the navigation equipped infotainment system, as well as BMW iDrive control and a 16 speaker Harman Kardon stereo. A sunroof is available as well. There is a choice of nine different interiors, and numerous trim options, so you can make the inside look the way you really want it.
Outside are HID headlights and LED tail lights, with full LED adaptive headlights optional. There is an active rear differential, and M specific adjustable stability control. 19-inch wheels come standard, and you can fill them with the optional carbon ceramic brakes. Adaptive suspension with modes for sport and comfort is also available.
Available option packs include the Premium package with comes with a rear-view camera, parking sensors, heads-up info display and satellite radio. The Technology package comes with a universal remote (for your garage door), automatic high beams, and blind spot alert. The Executive package has an electric rear window sunshade, manual rear window shades, heated hear seats, active LED headlights, and a surround view camera.
Fuel economy for the M3 is rated at 13.7 L/100 km city, 9.0 highway for the manual and 14.2/9.6 for the auto. If you're looking at the Audi S4, Mercedes-Benz C63, Cadillac CTS-V, or Lexus IS-F, the M3 is the original, and always a threat.
