History/Overview

Alfa Romeo’s first-ever SUV model, introduced in 2018, is the shapely mid-sized Stelvio. Named after a mountain pass in the Italian alps, it promises sharp performance to go with its good looks. As we write this, Alfa is prepping to expand its crossover offerings with the compact Tonale.

What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year

For 2023, Alfa has added new Lusso and Estrema trims to the Stelvio’s mix.

Available Trims

The Stelvio comes in Sprint, Ti, Veloce, Estrema, Lusso, and Quadrifoglio trim levels. The first bunch are powered by a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine, while Quadrifoglio gets a 2.9L twin-turbo V6. Both engines come matched with AWD and an eight-speed transmission.

Standard Features

Sprint trim starts with auto on/off adaptive/auto-levelling xenon headlights with washers, LED taillights, power-folding side mirrors, passive keyless entry, rain-sensing wipers, a hands-free tailgate, Brembo brakes, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, there’s leather seating, ambient lighting, dual-zone A/C, an auto-dimming mirror, integrated garage remote, wireless phone charging, a digital gauge display, an 8.8-inch touchscreen, eight-speaker audio, heated/10-way power front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.

Stelvio’s standard safety package comprises forward collision mitigation, rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, blind spot monitoring, and lane departure warning.

Ti adds a dual-pane sunroof, oak wood dash trim, and 19-inch wheels.

Veloce gains 14-way front seats, a mechanical limited-slip rear differential, and 20-inch wheels.

Estrema gets carbon fibre dash trim, a 14-speaker stereo, active suspension, and 21-inch wheels.

Lusso reverts to the 10-way seats, standard suspension, and open rear differential, and adds crema cannelloni leather, and aluminum trim.

Quadrifoglio reverts to 20-inch wheels, but gains back the carbon fibre dash bits and adds performance front seats, upgraded brakes, a torque-vectoring differential, and a sport-tuned active suspension.

Key Options

An active assist plus pack, available in Ti trim and higher, adds driver attention alert, intelligent speed assist, highway driving assist, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assist, and active blind spot assist.

Veloce trim and above can be had with a 14-speaker stereo, and leather dash and door panels.

Fuel Economy

Alfa Romeo’s fuel consumption estimates are 10.8/8.3 L/100 km (city/highway) for 2.0L models, and 13.9/10.3 L/100 km for Quadrifoglio trim.

Competition

If you’re in the market for a mid-size luxury crossover, cross-shop the Stelvio against the Porsche Macan, Infiniti QX50, Acura RDX, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Lincoln Corsair, Lexus NX, BMW X3, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60, Genesis GV70, and Buick Envision.
