For 2009, the Nissan Frontier receives a mild front facelift and some minor changes to its interior. A new PRO-4X off-road model is added, which replaces the former NISMO off-road model of 2008.

The Frontier is available as a King Cab, with 2.5-litre four-cylinder or 4.0-litre V6, and as a Crew Cab, with the V6 only. On the King Cab, the four-cylinder comes with a five-speed manual that can be optioned to a five-speed automatic. The King Cab V6 comes with a five-speed automatic on the 4x2 SE, while 4x4 SE and PRO-4X models come with a six-speed manual that can be optioned to the five-speed automatic. On the Crew Cab, the SE 4x2 comes with a five-speed automatic, the SE 4x4 with a six-speed manual that can be optioned to the five-speed automatic. The LE and PRO-4X are five-speed automatic only.

Trim lines for the King Cab are the XE, in 4x2; SE, in 4x2 or 4x4; and the PRO-4X, in 4x4. The Crew Cab comes in SE, in 4x2 or 4x4; the LE, in 4x4; and the PRO-4X, in 4x4. All models come with a 6-foot bed except for the Crew Cab PRO-4X, which has a 5-foot bed.

Features on the King XE include 15-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, splash guards, heated mirrors, rear privacy glass, locking tailgate, tire pressure monitoring system, cargo bed light, sliding rear window, power windows, power locks with keyless entry, cruise control, variable intermittent wipers, tilt steering column, fold-flat front passenger seat, forward-facing rear flip-up seats, second-row under-seat storage, and CD stereo.

The King SE adds 16-inch alloy wheels, front tow hook, chrome bumpers, and front map lights.

The King PRO-4X adds electronic locking rear differential, Bilstein performance shock absorbers, skid plates, fog lights, spray-on bedliner and rail caps, cargo channel system with tie-down cleats, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, trip computer, first-aid kit, leather-wrapped wheel, front seat-side airbags, curtain airbags, and six-CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input, wheel-mounted audio controls and XM satellite radio.

Features on the Crew SE include 16-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, front tow hook, splash guards, chrome bumpers, heated mirrors, rear privacy glass, cargo channel system with tie-down cleats, spray-on bedliner and rail caps, locking tailgate, cargo bed light, rear defroster, tire pressure monitoring system, power locks with keyless entry, power windows, cruise control, variable intermittent wipers, front map lights, fold-flat front passenger seat, 60/40 fold-up split bench rear seat, second-row under-seat storage, and CD system.

The Crew LE adds 18-inch alloy wheels, hill descent control, hill start assist, automatic headlamps, fog lights, roof rack with crossbars, step rails, chrome mirrors and door handles, power sunroof, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, garage door opener, auto-dimming rearview mirror, compass, outside temperature display, trip computer, first-aid kit, eight-way power driver's seat, leather-wrapped wheel, and six-CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input, wheel-mounted audio controls and XM satellite radio.

The Crew PRO-4X builds on the SE and adds electronic rear locking differential, hill descent control, hill start assist, Bilstein performance off-road shock absorbers, skid plates, body-colour bumpers, power sunroof, Bluetooth hands-free connectivity, trip computer, first-aid kit, leather-wrapped wheel, white-face gauges, six-CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input, wheel-mounted audio controls and XM satellite radio, front seat side airbags, and curtain airbags.

Nicely sized, the Frontier comes well-equipped, with air conditioning and other features on the base model. The SE is the overall value package, while the LE can be further equipped with heated, power-adjustable leather seats and the extra airbags. The PRO-4X provides off-road capability in either body configuration.
