History/Overview

Genesis is still new, but that's not stopping them from continuously updating product. The G80 midsize sedan was one of the first models for the luxury arm of Hyundai, and it's now time for a refresh. The brand's in-home service and delivery model seems quite prescient this year, when other automakers are scrambling to keep customers out of stores but in their businesses.

What's New

The G80 is all-new this year, starting with a new platform shared with the brand's first SUV. It's significantly lighter than the old car, and the new platform will get new powertrains shared with the crossover. The new car looks wider and lower, and gets some of the latest Genesis styling tweaks like the double-stack accent lights and large grille. A massive 14.5-inch infotainment screen highlights the all-new and slightly odd but elegant dashboard.

Available Trims

Genesis offers the G80 for 2021 in just two trim levels, both with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic. 2.5T Advanced gets a 2.5L turbo-four and 3.5T Prestige comes with a 3.5L twin-turbo V6.

Standard Features

2.5T Advanced starts with a suite of driver aids including Highway Driving Assist II lane centering and adaptive cruise, Smart Cruise with Machine Learning, which learns how you drive and then operates the cruise control accordingly, lane departure warning and keeping, forward collision avoidance with lane change oncoming and side, evasive steering assist, and junction crossing detection, blind spot alerts, and rear cross traffic avoidance. As expected in this class it has keyless access and go, a heated and power-adjust wheel, and front and rear climate control. A panoramic sunroof is included along with an 8.0-inch digital cluster, 14.5-inch infotainment display with 21-speaker Lexicon audio, wireless charging, head-up display, rear camera mirror, and 12-way adjustable heated and ventilated leather seats.

3.5T Prestige adds electronically controlled suspension, a 12.3-inch 3D digital dash, parking sensors with remote smart parking assist, and Nappa leather as well as a 16-way Ergo Motion driver seat.

Key Options

With the Genesis all-inclusive pricing, your only options are trim level, colour, and if you want the fancy floor mats.

Fuel Economy

The 2.5T G80 is rated for 10.8 L/100 km city, 7.9 highway, with 12.9/9.0 for the 3.5T.

Competition

The G80 competes against established names like the sporty Audi A6, driver-focused BMW 5 Series, and luxury-heavy Mercedes-Benz E-Class, but it also contends with some of the alternative brands like the Lexus GS or Volvo's S90 sedan and it has pricing that comes in much lower than the Germans.
