Audi has released new technical details for its battery-electric Audi RS E-Tron GT performance sedan, which is set to launch in Canada sometime next year.
The RS E-Tron GT will come standard with a dual-motor powertrain good for a combined output of 590 horsepower and 612 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain is capable of putting out 640 horsepower and 627 lb-ft for brief periods of time when using the overboost function, as well, including when using launch control.
Speaking of launch control, the all-wheel-drive sedan will be able to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in under 3.5 seconds and will keep on accelerating until it hits an Autobahn-devouring top speed of 250 km/h. Helping to enable this impressive acceleration time is the standard two-speed gearbox for the rear electric motor. The sedan stays in the second higher gear in most instances, but when launch control is switched in, it will select the lower gear for the rear motor for quicker acceleration.
The energy is stored in a 93.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with an 800V architecture that allows for 270 kW DC fast charging. The automaker hasn't announced range estimates yet, so we'll have to wait to find out how far RS E-Tron GT drivers will be able to drive before they have to stop for more juice.
Backing up this impressive electric performance powertrain is a standard three-chamber air suspension system with adaptive dampers and an available four-wheel steering system. At higher speeds, the four-wheel steering system will instruct the front and rear wheels to steer in unison with each other for better steering response and agility. At low speeds, however, they will turn in the opposite direction from each other for better maneuverability in tight spaces and parking lots.
More information on the electric Audi RS E-Tron GT, including its electric range and interior features, will be announced closer to its arrival in Canada next year.
