Nissan Confirms New Z Sports Car is Coming

Nissan has finally confirmed that a new Z sports car is coming and has also hinted at other important updates to its lineup.

Rumours of the Z’s demise along with speculation about a new-generation model have been circulating for years, but this is the first time the Japanese automaker has confirmed an all-new version of the iconic coupe.

Teased in a video previewing Nissan’s future product lineup, a new Z car makes an appearance and from what we can see in that shadowy images, it looks promising. The car looks to be a huge departure from the current coupe with a simplified, streamlined, and almost retro-inspired design. If powered by the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 that Infiniti uses in the Q60 Red Sport, the new Z could output 400 horsepower, giving some credibility to rumours that the new version could be called the 400Z. We imagine Nissan stepping up its game with the next Z to make it a more suitable competitor to the Toyota Supra.

The Z has been languishing and is more than 10 years old now, which is ancient in the automotive space. While it’s understandable that sports cars are not as profitable a venture as SUVs and crossovers, performance cars, especially the Z, are an important part is Nissan’s DNA and the brand has been criticized for neglecting its Z and GT-R.

Nissan’s Other Big Plans

In the teaser video called NISSAN NEXT: From A to Z, it goes through all the upcoming new products that are being planned. While some of the highlighted vehicles are not sold in the Canadian market, it hints at a new Armada SUV, Frontier pickup truck, Kicks, Pathfinder, Qashqai, Rogue, and more.
