Dodge is expanding the Charger lineup with a new all-wheel-drive trim for 2020. The Charger GT AWD combines the more aggressive looks of the GT trim with the all-weather traction that was previously only available in SXT guise.
Like the SXT AWD, the Charger GT AWD comes with just one engine choice, the 3.6L Pentastar V6 with 300 hp and 264 lb-ft of torque. There's no option to get V8 and four-wheel drive, at least not yet. The V6 is backed by an eight-speed automatic and the all-wheel-drive system uses an active transfer case and can disconnect the front axle when the extra grip isn't needed. Drivers can leave it in automatic mode or can engage the AWD full-time with a touch of the Sport button.
"Most people think of Chargers and Challengers as high-performance muscle cars, which clearly they are, but they can also be four-season capable AWD performance cars," said Tim Kuniskis, head of Dodge passenger cars.
The GT trim gets a performance hood with a big scoop, as well as a different front fascia, side sills, and rear spoiler. Inside, the GT comes with heavily bolstered sports seats and a performance steering wheel. It also gets Dodge Performance Pages on the 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system that gives the driver information like G-force, reaction and lap times.
Adding all-wheel drive to the Charger GT will cost $3,450, with the GT AWD starting from $43,895. That gives Dodge four all-wheel drive car options, with both Charger and Challenger SXT and GT trims offering the feature.
