Subaru has updated its Impreza compact sedan and hatchback for 2020 with refreshed styling, expanded availability of the EyeSight active safety suite, and a $19,995 starting price held over from last year.
EyeSight is now bundled with the available continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), making this the first year the safety system can be optioned into any Impreza trim. Those automatic models also gain Subaru's SI-Drive with its sport and intelligent performance modes.
Also new to the Impreza is the Subaru Starlink connected services package, now standard in most trims. It allows the driver to connect to the car via smartphone to use remote engine start and door lock functions, and provide automatic collision notification and enhanced roadside assistance.
Cosmetic updates are limited to a new front fascia.
This also marks the ninth consecutive model year the Impreza has carried a sub-$20,000 base MSRP, once again making it Canada's least-expensive AWD vehicle.
As before, the $19,995 price applies to the Impreza Convenience sedan with its five-speed manual transmission (5MT), while the hatchback is $1,000 more expensive.
The least-expensive EyeSight equipped Impreza is the Convenience sedan with the CVT, at $21,995, while the hatchback variant goes for $22,995.
Touring trim sees its price increase $700 to $22,695 for a 5MT sedan, and $23,595 for the hatch. Comparable CVT models with EyeSight are priced at $24,695 and $25,595 (sedan and hatch, respectively).
This year's Sport trim sells for $25,295 (5MT sedan) or $26,195 (5MT hatchback) -- both increases of $800. The 2020 Subaru Impreza Sport CVT (the cheapest way to get EyeSight in last year's model) goes for $27,895 in sedan form and $28,795 for the hatch, both of which are $600 increases compared to 2019.
Finally, Impreza Sport-tech now sells for $30,795 (sedan) or $31,695 (hatch) with its standard CVT and EyeSight, also increases of $600.
