Earlier today Land Rover revealed the all-new Range Rove Evoque at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, as well as Canadian pricing.
Starting at $47,000 in Canada, the newest version of Land Rover’s smallest Range Rover gets a new 296 hp mild-hybrid (MHEV) powertrain. Mild meaning it won’t run in full-EV mode, however energy stored during braking can be redeployed to provide assistance during acceleration.
While the footprint of the new model is similar to the outgoing Evoque, Land Rover reports more trunk space (as well as 40/20/20 split folding rear seats), more knee room and more in-cabin storage that sees the addition of an in-dash storage area big enough for smartphones and tablets - all made possible now that the Evoque sits on the company’s Premium Transverse Architecture platform. The cabin, meanwhile, can be finished in a variety of sustainable material crafted from Kvadrat wool and eucalyptus textiles. Up to 33 kg of recycled materials are used for various elements on and inside the Evoque.
Small it may be, but the new Evoque is still a Range Rover so it needs to remain capable as the roads get steeper, muddier, or bumpier. The 2020 Evoque therefore gets a Terrain Response 2 AWD system as well as enhanced 600 mm wading capability. First seen on 2014’s Transparent Bonnet tech study, the system makes the hood transparent so you can actually see what’s going on ahead and underneath - an area normally obstructed by the hood. The view gets projected on the upper of two touchscreen displays.
Want more displays? Well, there’s also a digital gauge cluster, heads-up display and ClearSight rearview mirror that – you guessed it – changes into a HD monitor with the press of a button, much like we’ve been able to do with various GM products over the last few years.
Many manufacturers – especially luxury manufacturers – will tell you that infotainment is at the top of many a buyer’s wish list, so the 2020 Evoque comes standard with the aforementioned twin 10-inch central displays, where you can find your Android Auto and Apple CarPlay displays. The 4G WiFi hot spot, meanwhile, can support up to eight devices.
