Another New Design for Toronto Cops

Toronto police have unveiled the latest livery for their new police cars, just 11 months after introducing the current scheme.

It's another new look for Toronto's approximately 550 police cars. The new dark grey and white design screams police car loud and strong, but takes away some of the unique character of the city's cruisers.

Just last September, Toronto police announced that they were dropping the white cruisers with a blue and red stripe for a grey paint job and silver stripe. The change of paint came with the change from the iconic Ford Crown Victoria to the newer, more modern Ford Taurus-based Police Interceptor. While the colour of the car itself was slightly less visible, the day and night reflective lettering and stripes were intended to make up for it.

But while the dark grey cars looked cool, they weren't popular with the public. Toronto police received complaints that they weren't visible enough. Only 79 cars got the all-grey design before it was stopped while the city went back to the drawing board.

The new design came with help from Ryerson University and underwent testing with the public in the spring. The new design should roll onto Toronto roads in November, and it will take about five years before the whole fleet moves from the previous two paint jobs to the current one. Unless they change it again.
