Volkswagen says it has yet another new crossover in the pipeline, and that it will be built at the company's factory in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The news comes straight from VW head honcho Heinrich Woebcken in an Automotive News interview today at the New York auto show.
Woebcken didn't say when the new model would go into production, or even what kind of crossover it would be, but the update follows a 2014 VW promise to invest US$900 million for a new Tennessee-built SUV. It's also not clear whether the infusion of cash would fund new jobs.
Volkswagen is set to roll out its first seven-seat SUV, the Atlas, in a few weeks, and also has an all-new Tiguan compact crossover -- albeit larger than the current model -- due out later this year. And then there's the T-Roc, another compact that's been confirmed for the U.S. market, but not yet for Canada.
In another NY auto show announcement, VW revealed it will include a six-year, 72,000-mile (approximately 115,000 km) bumper-to-bumper warranty on its two new SUVs to American buyers. Canadian buyers are currently offered a four-year, 80,000 km new vehicle warranty, with powertrain coverage for 5 years/100,000 km; VW Canada says it is sticking with that coverage for the time being.
