Aston Martin AM-RB 001 Is Now the Valkyrie

Aston Martin has given the AM-RB 001 hypercar a real name. An epic car needs an epic name, and Aston Martin has given the car a good one: Valkyrie.

The name comes from Norse mythology. The Valkyries were female spirits who decided who lived and who died on the battlefield. Aston is implying that this car could do the same, but this time the field of battle will be paved, with FIA run-offs and curbs instead of mud, broadswords, and maces. Aston Martin Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman calls the name "pertinent to a car that only a fortunate few will ever experience."

The V12 powered hypercar made its debut to the public at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto last month. The car is rumoured to have around 1,000 hp from the V12 and a Formula 1-style KERS hybrid system. Production of the car is said to be limited to around 150 road cars and 25 race cars.

Since 1951, starting with the DB2 Vantage, the highest performance Astons have gotten a "V" name. Since that Vantage, they've also had the Virage, the Vanquish, and the thundering track-only Vulcan. Reichman calls it the newest car "an incredibly special car that demands an equally remarkable name."

Aston Martin hasn't yet said when the cars will be available, so we're still not sure when you'll be able to get a ride in a Valkyrie. We do have a video, so you can listen and see the car some more.
