The technical specs alone of this Yamaha system are impressive. It uses 12 speakers in total: four tweeters in the cabin hit the high notes; three mid-range squawkers for the midtones, and four door-mounted woofers for the low range, both of which utilize one of the world’s strongest synthetic fibres, ZYLON. Speed Compensated Volume not only increases the volume according to your vehicle’s speed, but it also enhances the bass accordingly and offers five driver-selectable levels. And there are two features that aren’t found on any other vehicle in North America that are directly designed for the weather you may find along your travels …

No one loves driving in the rain, but it’s a fact of life, even on your ideal road trip. And you wouldn’t think it affects your music, but Mitsubishi Motors and Yamaha have taken steps to make sure it doesn’t: the Rain Compensated Volume feature automatically adjusts the volume and mid/high frequencies when the windshield wipers are set to high, to make sure you don’t miss a beat or tweet. And for those hotter drives, the Air-conditioning Compensated Volume feature does the same, but it’s based on airflow through the Outlander’s outlets. These are features that make subtle but discernable differences in the quality of your sound experience. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a company like Yamaha would think about the driving experience itself when designing a car audio system.
