Hyundai Awards

And the award goes to ...

In case you haven’t noticed, Hyundai has been on a roll as of late, with radical redesigns, new offerings and sales successes in the past few years. In fact, quite a few people have noticed, and the brand has won award after award for its fleet of sedans and SUVs. To name a few notables, the Ioniq 5 N was named World Performance Car by the World Car Awards; the Ioniq 6 was named Best Premium EV by AutoTrader; and the Santa Fe earned a prestigious Red Dot design award. And these are just a few from this past year! But the Korean automaker’s lineup deserves more than just the normal accolades. With a vehicle for just about every segment, and a wide selection of gas-powered and electrified powertrains, we thought we’d hand out a few of our owns awards that reflect the true nature of Hyundai’s vehicles and how they stand out for their own reasons.

Efficiency in Electrons Award – Ioniq 6

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 isn’t just a pretty face; the Preferred Long-Range RWD version is Canada’s most energy efficient EV in 2024, with a rating of 16.2 kWh/100 km (combined) by Natural Resources Canada. The Ioniq 6 also won the World Car of the Year, World Design of the Year and World Electric Vehicle of the Year awards (among many others worldwide) when it debuted just last year. The swoopy EV has a range of up to 550 km, and it’s also available with AWD.

Runner up: The Kona EV is the 8th most efficient EV available in Canada, with a rating of 18.1 kWh/100 km.

One BIG Happy Family Award – Palisade

Getting a large family around with all their gear can be a challenge; keeping them all happy while doing so is even more difficult. But not if you have the Hyundai Palisade, with standard seating for up to eight passengers and a total cargo capacity of up to 2,447 litres.

But it’s not just big; the Palisade offers the comfort and technology that will satisfy everyone inside, no matter how old they are. And Hyundai’s SmartSense suite of electronic driving aids adds peace of mind in helping to protect what’s most precious: your family.

Runner up: The recently redesigned Santa Fe can take up to seven passengers, and though just a little smaller than the Palisade, it still offers a wide range of technology to keep everyone happy.

The savings calculator is a guide and not a guarantee of actual savings. Savings are calculated by the cost of your monthly trips (total km x fuel cost ÷ consumption of your vehicle), and how many of the monthly km can be driven in electric and hybrid mode, combining which shows the cost of the Outlander PHEV and the difference compared to your vehicle. Actual efficiency will vary depending on conditions, such as external elements, driving behaviours, vehicle maintenance and lithium-ion battery age.

Stand Out from the Crowd Award – Tucson

In a sea of bland compact SUVs and crossovers, it’s hard to distinguish one from another without looking at their badges. But not the Tucson.

Designed around the brand’s ‘Parametric Dynamics’ design language, the fourth generation of Hyundai’s best-selling vehicle sports a distinctive angular aesthetic, which looks both powerful and refined. At the front, its 3D grille features hidden LED running lights, while muscular rear haunches help create a visually wider stance. This is one good-looking SUV; there’s certainly no mistaking the Tucson in a parking lot.

Runner up: You could easily pick any vehicle from Hyundai’s current lineup; we’ll go with the Ioniq 5 for its pixel-like headlights and tail lights and sharply creased bodywork that has continued to turn heads since it debuted for the 2022 model year.

More For Your Money Award – Venue

The Venue might be the least expensive vehicle in the Hyundai lineup, but it doesn’t feel cheap by any means. The subcompact SUV is packed with the performance, amenities and technology you’d expect from more expensive offerings. Outside, its boxy shape is available in two-tone paint schemes and fits right in with your urban adventures, while the interior is more upscale than what you’d expect in the segment. Some notable standard features include remote keyless entry with alarm, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and heated front seats, among many others. All for a new SUV starting at just over the $20k mark!

Runner up: The Sonata mid-sized sedan offers a premium experience in a mainstream segment.

The Do-It-All Award - Santa Cruz

Is the Santa Cruz a small pickup, or an SUV with a bed? Hyundai calls it a Sport Adventure Vehicle, but whatever you call it, it’s the perfect blend of a comfortable ride and upscale interior with the utility of an open truck bed. And with standard AWD, the Santa Cruz bridges the gap between urban streets and dirt trails. Standard features such as a roll-up, lockable tonneau cover and 115 V bed outlet add to its usefulness, while inside boasts the technology you’d expect in a more premium SUV.

Runner up: The Santa Fe’s wide rear hatch makes loading and unloading almost as easy as an open pickup bed.
