Hyundai has an electrified vehicle for everyone

It’s no secret that Hyundai is a leader in electrification, with four fully electric vehicles (soon to be five with the Ioniq 9 coming this summer), one plug-in hybrid and three hybrids. Hyundai offers a deep and diverse electrified lineup.

And with such an extensive offering, Hyundai has a vehicle for everyone. Whether you’re fully onboard with all-electric driving, or are curious but still hesitant about going full electric, or even if you just want something that saves money at the gas pumps, Hyundai has what you’re looking for when it comes to electrified vehicles.

What type of electric driver are you?

All-Electric, All the Time

A battery electric vehicle (BEV) operates solely on electricity, with a larger battery powering one or two motors. Hyundai offers no less than four BEVs, all with cutting-edge technology and efficient, world-class drivetrains. Plus, you’ll have the options of subcompact and compact SUVs, a mid-sized sedan and even a track-focussed performance screamer. Overall, Hyundai offers Canada’s most awarded fully electric lineup*, and there’s another BEV on the way …

  • The IONIQ 5 offers distinctive, angular styling and an innovative interior to go along with its all-electric package. It features a 84.0 kWh battery, and you can choose between the Preferred Long Range RWD that features up to 504 km of range, or the Preferred Long Range AWD getting 463 km
  • The IONIQ 6 is a sleek four-door sedan with a range of up to 550 km for the Preferred Long Range RWD version. The AWD Ioniq 6 delivers 435 km of range
  • The KONA Electric delivers all-electric performance with a range of up to 420 km. On top of its efficient powertrain, it also features standout looks and utility
  • The IONIQ 5 N may look like the Ioniq 5, but make no mistake, this one is made for all-out performance. Extensively modified, the AWD N gets an 84 kWh battery and has more than 600 hp on tap. It also has heavy duty brakes and suspension and race-tuned aerodynamics
  • Coming soon is the IONIQ 9, Hyundai’s first full-size, all-electric SUV. This seven-seater will have up to 422 hp, all-wheel drive and up to 5,000 lbs of towing capacity. It also features 800V charging architecture, a NACS charge port and can charge to 80 per cent in around 24 minutes

Plug In and Fill Up

The bridge between a BEV and hybrid is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). A PHEV has a battery (smaller than that of a BEV, but larger than a hybrid) that powers an electric motor, but it also has an onboard gasoline engine that takes over the driving when the battery is depleted. It can also be plugged in to charge.

  • The Tucson PHEV is a compact SUV with a 13.8kWh battery and up to 51 km of electric-only range, which covers most people’s daily drives. The onboard 1.6L turbocharged gas engine and electric motor combine for 268 hp and 6.7 L/100 km combined fuel economy

The savings calculator is a guide and not a guarantee of actual savings. Savings are calculated by the cost of your monthly trips (total km x fuel cost ÷ consumption of your vehicle), and how many of the monthly km can be driven in electric and hybrid mode, combining which shows the cost of the Outlander PHEV and the difference compared to your vehicle. Actual efficiency will vary depending on conditions, such as external elements, driving behaviours, vehicle maintenance and lithium-ion battery age.

A Little Extra Electric Kick

A hybrid vehicle is powered primarily by a gasoline engine. But it also features a smaller battery and an electric motor to power the vehicle at slower speeds and for shorter intervals, which helps overall fuel economy. It isn’t plugged in; rather, it relies on returning braking energy to charge the battery. Hyundai offers three different hybrid vehicles to suit your needs.

  • The Santa Fe Hybrid gets just 6.9 L/100 km of combined fuel economy, exceptional for a seven-passenger SUV. A complete redesign makes this SUV more rugged and capable yet still refined and packed with features
  • The Tucson Hybrid is a third variant of the popular compact SUV. The hybrid delivers just 6.7 L/100 km in fuel economy on the combined rating and has best-in-class standard safety & tech features
  • The Elantra Hybrid is a compact sedan with a miniscule 4.7 L/100 km combined fuel economy. Its sharp, angular design and front signature LED lighting make it stand out in the segment, too

Now for Something Completely Different …

Hyundai is also a leader in the development of hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV). The NEXO features an electric motor and small battery, but electricity is produced onboard with hydrogen from a tank chemically mixing with air through a fuel cell, for a range of up to 612 km between fill-ups. Admittedly, hydrogen stations are scarce in North America (with plans to expand in the future), but the NEXO just shows what can be accomplished in diversifying technologies.

Hyundai continues to innovate and develop new clean technologies, and plans for many more electrified vehicles to come. It’s committed to an electric future on the road, but with its current lineup, you can drive the future today.
