The New 2025 Audi A5 Gets Lots of New Tech, But it Costs a Lot More

When he drove the Audi A5 in Europe, our contributor Peter Bleakney called it a return to form for the German company. He said the sedan offered a luxurious cabin with all kinds of new tech, as well as a “far more engaging” driving experience than what we’ve come to expect from the automaker. But that refinement will come at a cost.

Audi revealed today that the 2025 A5 will start at $61,150 (including freight and other fees). As a reminder, the new four-door is more of a followup to the A4 sedan than the A5 coupe, due to a now abandoned change in naming convention that sought to label electric vehicles with round numbers and internal-combustion-powered vehicles with odd numbers. As a result, the car’s price has effectively been increased by $5,100 over the A4 (which is still on sale).

For that princely sum, A5 buyers get a 2.0L, four-cylinder engine that makes 268 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The car sits on 18-inch wheels and any colour apart from Arkona White adds $890 to the price of the vehicle. Inside, customers can choose from one of three no-cost upholstery colours: black, brown, and beige. Embossed leather (in beige or black) will add another $3,400 to the price of the sedan.

Fortunately, the lofty price increase over the A4 is somewhat explained by the wealth of tech features that come as standard. The 2025 A5 is equipped with high beam assistance, heated mirrors, heated front seats, three-zone climate control, an auto-dimming mirror, an 11.9-inch digital cockpit screen, and a 14.5-inch touchscreen that can run wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also comes with plenty of driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control, traffic congestion assist, rear cross traffic assist, and more.

Prices for the Progressiv and Technik trims come in at $65,750 and $67,750 (including fees). Both feature the same powertrain, but the former adds a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a fixed partly transparent glass roof, colour-selectable ambient lighting, adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, park assist, and a top-view camera mode.

Meanwhile, the Technik trim gets LED headlights with a digital daytime-running light package, acoustic front door glass, heated rear seats, and a 10.9-inch display for the passenger that sits above the glove box.

Prices for the higher-performance S5 start at $73,150 in Canada. It replaces the four-cylinder engine with a 3.0L V6 that makes 362 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. It also gets red brake calipers, silver mirror caps, a sport suspension, and 19-inch wheels. Inside, it benefits from Nappa leather seating with diamond-pattern stitching, as well as carbon fibre inlays.

Like the A5, S5 buyers can also opt for the fancier Progressiv or Technik trims, which start at $77,750 and $81,150, respectively. The former adds the same improvements as the A5 Progressiv trim, but the S5 Technik benefits from an even better 20-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system and OLED taillights.

The 2025 Audi A5 and S5 are expected to hit Canadian roads this summer.
