Made in Canada: What Cars Are Manufactured in Canada?

Canada and the United States have now entered a trade war, with both countries imposing tariffs on the other's products. This revelation presents a new incentive for Canadian car buyers to shop for locally manufactured cars to avoid paying tariffs for U.S.-made vehicles.

Canada has a long history of automobile manufacturing. Despite the absence of Canadian car companies, Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Toyota, and General Motors have all manufactured vehicles here for decades.

Five international car companies currently produce vehicles in Canada, with all factories located in Ontario. Some vehicles are exported, while others are sold exclusively in Canada.

Ford

Oakville Assembly - Oakville, Ont.: Ford Super Duty (planned 2026)

The Oakville Assembly is Ford’s only current plant in Canada, opening in 1953. The factory is currently in the process of retooling in preparation to produce Ford Super Duty trucks, with production set to start in 2026. These trucks are widely used in multiple variants as work vehicles, with varying degrees of customization available to suit specific job requirements.

General Motors

CAMI Assembly - Ingersoll, Ont.: Chevrolet BrightDrop Van (Canada only)

Oshawa Car Assembly - Oshawa, Ont.: Chevrolet Silverado

St. Catharines Propulsion Plant - St. Catharines, Ont.: Engines and Transmissions

GM currently operates three plants within Ontario, with factories at Ingersoll, Oshawa, and St. Catharines. The CAMI Assembly in Ingersoll is the exclusive manufacturer of the Chevrolet BrightDrop van, an electric commercial van used commonly throughout North America by businesses such as Amazon and FedEx. Meanwhile, the Oshawa Car Assembly is currently producing Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks, consistently one of the highest-selling, most successful pickups in North America. The St. Catharines plant focuses on manufacturing parts. Specifically, they produce the gen-five, V8 engines, and dual-clutch transmissions, both of which are used in the Chevrolet Corvette.

Honda

Honda of Canada Manufacturing - Alliston, Ont.: Honda Civic and CR-V

Honda has two factories in Alliston, Ont., one producing the popular Civic and the other the CR-V crossover. Both of these models continue to be massive sales successes in both domestic and global markets. The Civic and CR-V are some of the most competitive offerings in each of their segments, with both being some of Honda’s best-selling models.

Stellantis

Windsor Assembly - Windsor, Ont.: Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Charger (Canada Only)

Brampton Assembly - Brampton, Ont.: Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, Chrysler 300, Jeep Compass (future) (Canada Only)

There are currently two Stellantis factories located in Canada: the Brampton and Windsor Assemblies.

Chrysler has a long history of manufacturing in Canada and continues to do so to this day. The Windsor plant has been producing Chrysler products since 1928. As for current-day production, the Windsor Assembly is the exclusive manufacturer of the Chrysler Pacifica minivan and the new-generation Dodge Charger Daytona.

Meanwhile, Brampton is currently retooling its facility in preparation to make the next-generation Jeep Compass. Up until 2024, the Brampton plant was the only factory that produced the previous-generation Dodge Charger, Challenger, and Chrysler 300, but all of those vehicles have been discontinued.

Toyota

Cambridge Facility: Cambridge, Ont.: Toyota RAV4, Lexus NX (Canada Only), Lexus RX (Canada only)

Woodstock Facility: Woodstock, Ont.: Toyota RAV4

Toyota has two plants in Ontario, one in Cambridge and one in Woodstock. The Cambridge plant manufactures the Toyota RAV, as well as being the only facility in North America that makes the Lexus RX and NX crossovers. The Woodstock plant only produces the popular RAV4. The RAV4 is one of the most popular crossovers in the country, while the Lexus RX is similarly one of the most successful luxury crossovers.
