Nissan Concept Trucks Conquer the Track and Tailgate Party at the Toronto Auto Show

Nissan is showing off its engineering capabilities at the Canadian International Auto Show (CIAS) in Toronto with two extreme interpretations of its mid-size pickup truck, the Frontier. The theme for the projects is “four-wheel excitement,” and the concepts are about as different as two pickups can be.

Project Tailgater

The Tailgater, as the name suggests, is a truck designed specifically to be a tailgate party piece. Made in collaboration with PowerNation TV’s Music City Trucks, the concept takes a 2025 Frontier Pro-4X and modifies it to be both extremely capable off-road and at the tailgate. Modifications for the trail include Nismo off-road accessories, including a lift kit, improved suspension, additional lights, a bed rack, and additional cargo cases.

As for tailgating, additions include two 43-inch weatherproof TVs, power coolers, a grille, and even a kitchen sink all mounted to the bed of the truck. This is designed to be the ultimate adventure and camping truck, tailored for outdoor recreation.

Frontier Tarmac Concept

Just as the name suggests, the Frontier Tarmac is designed for one thing: the track. A collaboration between Nissan Motorsports, Nissan Design America, and Forsberg Racing, this one-off concept has some serious performance.

Modifications made to Nissan’s 3.8-litre V6 include the addition of a supercharger as well as a Nismo cold air intake and custom exhaust system. The overall result is 400 hp going to all four wheels, a significant upgrade from the 310 hp of the standard Frontier.

Nissan ensures the Frontier can handle all of this power with the addition of new brakes, suspension, and Nismo Tarmac 20-inch wheels equipped with Yokohama Advan tires. To add to its performance look, the Tarmac is painted Afterburn Orange and receives accessories such as a body kit, spoiler, hood vent, and a healthy amount of carbon fibre to reduce weight.

Alongside these highly modified concepts, Nissan intends to highlight new models at the Canadian International Auto Show, which runs from February 14 to 23, 2025. These include the all-new Nissan Kicks subcompact crossover, the fourth-generation, all-new Nissan Murano, and also the new generation of the Nissan Armada.
