2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 Gains Off-Road Ready XRT Trim, More Range

Is the Hyundai Ioniq 5 a little SUV or a big hatchback? No matter what you think, everyone will doubtless agree that its new, off-road-ready XRT trim, introduced today with the electric vehicle’s (EV) refresh, looks badass.

The new trim comes with a 23 mm (0.9-inch) suspension lift, black 18-inch wheels wrapped in 235/60R18 all-terrain tires, and it gets black cladding all around that is etched with a digital camouflage pattern. These modifications result in an approach angle of 19.8 degrees and a departure angle of 30 degrees.

As you’d expect, the Ioniq 5 XRT is only available with the dual-motor AWD powertrain with an 84 kWh battery pack. Inside, it benefits from H-Tex seating and a black headliner and the model will be offered in two exclusive colours: Ultimate Red and Cosmic Blue Pearl.

On a less off-roady, but no less interesting note, the 2025 Ioniq 5 XRT will be the first Hyundai model offered in Canada that was built at the automaker’s Metaplant America facility in Georgia. It will also be the brand’s first model equipped with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug built right in.

Oddly, the the Tesla-style charging plug will not be hard-wired into other 2025 Ioniq 5s, which have also been updated for the upcoming model year. Instead, they come with an old-fashioned Combined Charging System (CCS) plug, and an NACS adapter.

Regardless of where you plug in, the Ioniq 5 will be able to go farther once the battery is fully charged thanks to an updated selection of battery packs that range from 63 to 84 kWh. On the Ioniq 5 Preferred Long Range RWD model, range is increasing from 488 km to a targeted range of 499+ km. On the Preferred Long Range AWD model, range will increase from 414 km to over 450 km (depending on the trim buyers opt for). Range estimates for the XRT trim have not been revealed, but the new Preferred Standard Range RWD has a targeted range of 386 km.

In addition, non XRT versions of the 2025 Ioniq 5 benefit from a restyled front end, a new rear spoiler, a rear windshield wiper, new aerodynamic wheels, and new exterior colours, including Atlas White Matte and Ecotronic Gray Matte.

The bigger changes are being made on the inside, though. These include the relocation of the wireless device charging pad, redesigned physical HVAC controls, and buttons for the seat controls. The 12.3-inch infotainment system is also running on updated software and Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard across the range.

In addition, the 2025 Ioniq 5 will come with a steering wheel that can detect if the driver’s hands are on it, a lane following features, the latest remote smart parking assistant, and available collision avoidance while parking.

Unfortunately, pricing has yet to be announced for the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 lineup, but the automaker plans to release that information closer to when it hits Canadian dealer show rooms later this year.
