The much anticipated Volkswagen ID. Buzz is set to arrive in Canadian dealerships later this year, and prices will start at $77,495 (excluding taxes and freight).
For that, buyers will get the 1st Edition RWD trim, which, as the name suggests, will be powered by a single electric motor located on the rear axle. Drivers will have access to 282 horsepower and a 91 kWh battery pack, providing them with up to 377 km of range, according to the automaker’s estimates.
Although the ID. Buzz 1st Edition RWD is expensive, it will offer a lot of standard content, including seating for up to seven passengers, a split-folding centre bench seat, a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, and a 5.3-inch driver display. In addition, it gets 12-way power-adjustable massaging front seats that are heated and ventilated, heated outboard seats in the second row, a 700-watt 14-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system, a removable centre console, wireless app-connect, wireless phone charging, and more. In addition, the model will come standard with active safety features, like distance warnings, dynamic road sign displays, automatic high beams, and a heads-up display.
Volkswagen plans to offer three interior design options, including Cognac, which comes with brown leatherette seats, yellow piping, brown door inserts, and a washed wood-look dash; Dune, which comes with light grey leatherette seats, clay-coloured piping, and a light wood-look dash; and Moonlight, which has dark brown leatherette seats, white piping, blue door inserts, a black headliner, and a dark wood-look dash.
Outside, the electric microbus will be equipped with 20-inch wheels as standard and will come with a retractable tow hitch, though tow ratings have not yet been released. Four exterior colour options are available on this trim: Cabana Blue with Candy White, Blue Charcoal, Deep Black Pearl, and Metro Silver.
For customers who want a little more oomph, the ID. Buzz 1st Edition 4Motion will add a second electric motor at the front axle, upping the power level to 335 hp and providing the EV with all-wheel drive. For that extra power, drivers will only suffer a four-kilometre range penalty (total of 373 km), but they will have to pay $82,995 (before taxes and freight) for the trim.
In addition to the extra power, the model gets second-row captain’s chairs and can be painted an array of two-tone colours (all featuring a Candy White roof) for $1,500. Buyers who want to let a little more light into the cabin can also opt for the $2,000 Electrochromic panoramic glass roof, which switches from clear to frosted at the touch of a button.
Further details, including information about additional trim levels, will be revealed later. The ID. Buzz 1st Edition models will reach Canadian showrooms late this year.
