What is the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) definition of rush hour? Could it be the long traffic queues? Could it be the endless gridlock? Whatever the answer, it's enough to make many drivers lose their minds and do something illegal to reach their destination as quickly as possible.
A 21-second viral video from TikTok shows at least six drivers illegally cutting across a grassy hill on Highway 401 from Brampton to Toronto to cut through traffic.
"I don't know if I'm that desperate to cut across the bush," the poster said. "Should I do it too?"
In the comment section, many TikTok users tagged the Toronto Police's traffic division, asking, "What do you think about this?" and "Is this legal? What is the penalty?"
In the second clip, the poster wrote, "It was a 10-18 [minutes] delay. People were just impatient." And more questions arose when one of the commenters said, "Imagine your car gets stuck there."
On the TikTok video itself, a disclaimer reads, "Participating in this activity could result in you or others getting hurt."
In Ontario, this behaviour is classified as careless driving. If convicted, the driver can face six demerit points, licence suspensions, and/or related fines.
