The all-new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek has just been revealed. Based on the chassis of the new Impreza, the lifted AWD wagon gets more aggressive styling that makes the crossover look even more off-road ready than it already is.
The great, big hexagonal grille is the first thing we noticed about the new Crosstrek. Alongside that new grille are smaller headlights and wider shoulders. There is a functional air outlet behind the front wheel wells, and there are more on the rear bumper. Subaru says they all help to add stability on the highway.
The chassis itself is stronger than before. Subaru says it has 10 per cent higher torsional rigidity thanks to a full inner frame, new welding techniques, and three times the structural adhesive. The car weighs less, too, and all of these changes should improve the ride and make the car more silent inside.
Powering most 2024 Subaru Crosstrek models is a 2.0L flat four-cylinder engine that makes 152 hp and 145 lb-ft, just like last year. Also like last year, it's connected to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and has AWD standard. An upgraded engine will continue to be available too, the 2.5L flat-four that makes 182 hp and 178 lb-ft.
The chassis has active torque vectoring, which directs power to improve handling. It will also have a version of the Subaru WRX's dual-pinion steering rack that Subaru says will give it greater responsiveness.
The Crosstrek's interior shrinks slightly for 2024. It has a total of 1,549 L of cargo space with the seats folded, about 15 L less than last year. Once you're in the cabin, though, you'll find a more supportive front seat design as well as Subaru's latest infotainment system. Subaru says it has also worked to reduce cabin noise and make the car quieter than before.
A dual 7.0-inch infotainment and climate control system is standard, while higher-spec Crosstreks get Subaru's 11.6-inch screen for the first time. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are both standard.
Lastly, Subaru puts the latest version of its Eyesight driver-assist tech in the 2024 Crosstrek. The automaker says this new system operates more smoothly and more quickly than before, thanks to a wider field of view.
Expect the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek at dealers this spring, with pricing to follow.
