Last year, Toyota expanded its Canadian crossover portfolio with the introduction of the Corolla Cross – a compact crossover that shares a platform and other components with the hugely popular Corolla sedan. Now the automaker has introduced the new 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, injecting the spirit of the Corolla Hybrid into a more spacious and high-riding package.
Power in the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid will come from Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid all-wheel drive system, which is rated at 194 horsepower and will return an impressive fuel economy of 6.4L/100 km for all trim levels.
Speaking of the trims, the electrified compact crossover will be offered in two grades from launch here in Canada: SE and XSE. The SE will come standard with 17-inch wheels, an eight-inch touchscreen, LED headlights and taillights, heated front seats, privacy glass, roof rails and paddle shifters for the continuously variable transmission. Moving up to the sportier XSE will net buyers larger 18-inch alloy wheels, premium LED headlights, taillights and foglamps, and a power driver's seat.
Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0 suite of active safety features is standard across both the SE and XSE trim levels. Some safety features included in this equipment group include dynamic radar cruise control, pre-collision with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist and automatic high beams, among more.
Standard on the Corolla Cross Hybrid will be Toyota’s new Multimedia System, which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and is capable of receiving over-the-air updates. An onboard Intelligent Assistant akin to Siri or Google Assistant also allows for voice commands to be used by saying “Hey Toyota.”
Canadians will be able to order the Corolla Cross Hybrid in four two-tone exterior colours, including Sonic Silver, Barcelona Red, Blue Crush Metallic and Acidic Blast, all of which will come with a contrasting black roof. Other Corolla Cross Hybrid exterior colours will include Wind Chill Pearl, Sonic Silver Metallic, Jet Black Mica, Barcelona Red, Celestite and Blue Crush Metallic. Interior colour options include Black/Gray cloth for the SE and Black or Black and Blue Softex for the XSE.
The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid will be produced at the automaker's new plant in Huntsville, Alabama. Canadians can expect to start seeing Corolla Cross Hybrids arriving at dealerships later this year.
